Gun salesman of the century
2016 smashed previous gun sales records. That’s just using NICS numbers. Transfers not involving NICS reportedly are one in five gun sales.
But they keep telling me gun ownership is on the decline.

The latest tripe is that it isn’t because of new gun owners. The same old rednecks are simply adding to their arsenal.

I’d bet more people are buying non-background-check guns than before.
People aren’t buying gun because they trust the gov’t after all.

We don’t actually have any information on how manny sales are completed, do we?
@Ravenwood And how do we know that it isn’t from people who already own guns? Do you have any actual information that isn’t anecdotal?

@Yoshi For most of the country we don’t really have a way of getting non-anecdotal data. I suppose for the places that have gun registration, actual data could be compiled but the very fact of having registration makes them atypical and I would not trust any data put out by CA, NY etc anyway. Polling data, especially on this topic is not reliable. There certainly are a lot of anecdotes though. I personally know a lot of first time buyers. Local gun store guy told me that he has been getting overrun by liberals since the election. His inventory is certainly down.

The thing that get me is that over the past 8 years there has been over 150 million background checks yet the gun ownership estimate of 300 million firearms is still used. I realize nics is for both new and used guns but it also doesn’t take into account multiple gun purchases.

One in five or five in five, non-NICS sales don’t increase or decrease the private national arsenal at all. Rate of ownership maybe, if non-owners are buying from multiple owners.
