New Army Gun
The Army Times says that the US Army’s new handgun will be a Sig:
Half a decade into its search for a new handgun, the Army has chosen Sig Sauer’s version of the Modular Handgun System, according to a Thursday announcement from the Army.
No specifics on the caliber or which particular model. My guess is the P320 in 9mm.
Here’s the announcement from Defense.gov.

Cuz we’ve got all that extra money in the budget, you know. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll sincerely enjoy deepening my beretta larder with spare part & barrels, etc. I think the adoption of an EFFECTIVE 9mm round and the M9A1 upgrade would been a far cheaper 97% solution.

Mark Keefe at American Rifleman is reporting it’s a version of the p320.

The TFB article said they hinted it was the compact/external safety variant. Mine is the plain jane full-size, and I really like it.
RE upgrading the m9, my understanding is that the existing inventory is essentially worn out, and in need of replacement.

I have never liked the beretta due to it being overly large and heavy for a 9mm. For the weight and size it seems to have had more than it’s fair share of issues. Good to see it gone.

I spent 10 years between the Marines and National Guard mostly combat units for both. I fired off thousands of rounds through various rifles and machine guns. Even called in live artillery and air strikes.
I Carried pistols a few times while on guard duty (.45 and the M9). But I never once fired a live pistol round once while on duty – not at a military range or any kind of training.
I hope they don’t waste much money picking out a new officer paper-weight.

So you had to qualify on a number of small arms, but never qualify for pistol? How is that possible?
