Gun Porn
A phone charger that looks like a PMAG. What could possibly go wrong?
CNN is breathlessly reporting that Trump is bad for the gun industry. The requisite fear that made Obama the gun salesman of the century is no longer there. And a higher up at ATF is coming out against some gun laws and regulations. So, the administration is viewed as pro gun. And, reports CNN, sales are down as are gun company stock prices.
There maybe something to it. There were half a million fewer NICS checks in January 2017 compared to January 2016. And prices on guns are dropping. Is ammo far behind?
A few companies are slowing down or going out of business. Kevin asks: Are we ready for a gun culture based on optimism and the continued growth of our right to keep and bear arms?
I’m not particularly worried since more guns were sold in the last eight years than probably ever. Interesting times.
And shoddy police reporting.
The police in DC report on a gun crime. Only trouble is the gun involved is a Umarex airgun.
Random thoughts on the new Army gun. Everything I’ve read about them from reputable people in the know has been positive. But I have yet to handle one. May head to the local shop and check one out. Or maybe I shouldn’t.
Just a few things on Super Bowl LI, which is not named after a Chinese born actor Jet Li. So many people seem to hate Tom Brady. Not sure why. He’s probably the best quarterback to ever play. He’s a nice guy. But social media was filled with raging hate for him last night.
How did Atlanta manage to lose? Were they just trying to lay low and let the clock run out?
Because of FAA regs, Gaga’s drone show was pre-recorded. And she didn’t really jump off the top of the stadium. Regardless, the woman has skills. She was not lip syncing that. Never been a fan of her music but that’s talent.
The commercials (which are historically why I even watch the game) this year were not as good. Seemed to be mostly just plain old commercials. But one commercial really cracked me right the Hell up. This one:
Can of bisque. Beautiful.
You can read it right here. The associate deputy director and chief operating officer suggests a few things. And the list is pretty good for gun owners. A few things:
ATF would appear to be on board with removing suppressors from NFA. With the recent popularity of suppressors, there is a huge backlog at ATF. And, ATF notes, they’re becoming pretty common now, even with people having to jump through tax stamp hoops.
ATF also is OK with importation and resale of surplus firearms:
There is no clear public safety reason why taxpayer-funded US-origin C&R defense articles should be denied re-importation to the American public, while many non-U.S.- origin C&R items are approved. Additionally, these items do not represent any discernable (sic) public safety concern, as demand lies with collectors of vintage military firearms. Importation and sale through licensed dealers would effectively regulate the lawful transfer of these firearms through a licensee and a background check.
ATF calls itself out over the stabilizing brace silliness.
ATF says AR-15s are popular should be re-evaluated for sporting purposes because they are used often for sporting purpose.
Allowing dealers to sell at out of state gun shows.
At the end, a list of regulations that should probably be amended or removed.
My, my. What has happened at the ATF to make them advocate something reasonable?
If you don’t want a bunch of violent kooks doing violent kook stuff, don’t give them a forum to do it.
I certainly hope so. The Hill:
During the Michigan presidential Republican primary in March of 2016, then-candidate Donald Trump promised both Kent Terry and Michelle Terry-Balogh, siblings of Brian Terry, if elected he would get the truth and answers regarding both Fast and Furious and the murder of Brian. He also gave his word to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said during the committees Tuesday meeting that President Trump instructed him and the committee to pursue every government investigation they deem appropriate.
A real man of genius decided to put on a face-covering and walk into a police station carrying an AK-47 to protest being illegally pulled over. Hilarity ensues.
They do with death upon their political opponents often. I mean, they never say they’ll engage in the violence themselves so there’s that.
The disinformation campaigns are in high gear.
I’m not sure if it’s intentionally part of Trump’s strategy with the press, but he seems to be overloading them with too much information far more quickly than they can handle it. So, their immediate reaction is to freak right out about it. Particularly, when he bypasses them completely and uses twitter or some other means of getting info out. As I said, I’m not certain it’s intentional but it is effective at making them look like boobs and making them look like “fake news”.
The beauty of fake news these days is that it’s anything you want it to be.
He’s receiving praise from libertarians and has Wayne LaPierre over to the White House. Things are getting interesting.
The SAF is impressed with him.
NSSF backs his nomination. Not once but twice.
David Hardy notes a gun case (felon in possession) that Gorsuch weighed in on.
So, he looks pretty good on gun rights. But my favorite thing about him so far is his dissent in a case where a court ruled that jailing a teenager for fake burps was just fine:
If a seventh grader starts trading fake burps for laughs in gym class, whats a teacher to do? Order extra laps? Detention? A trip to the principals office? Maybe. But then again, maybe thats too old school. Maybe today you call a police officer. And maybe today the officer decides that, instead of just escorting the now compliant thirteen year old to the principals office, an arrest would be a better idea. So out come the handcuffs and off goes the child to juvenile detention. My colleagues suggest the law permits exactly this option and they offer ninety-four pages explaining why they think thats so. Respectfully, I remain unpersuaded.
I’m starting to like this guy.
Under Obama, NICS checks went up 60%. MRC says gun sales went up by 60%. That number is most likely higher due to lawful gun sales that aren’t required to go through the NICS.
