One step forward one step back
I think it’s cool that Trump is proposing eliminating funding for froufrou largesse from the budget. But adding that right back to military and defense isn’t really a net gain for the people.

Well, it might be a gain, just a smaller one, if one believes the military needs more money for its job.
Which is a respectable, if not an Obviously Just True, belief.
Another plus is that defense is unquestionably an enumerated power, and the removed things are … less so. Civics-wise, a win.
But no, not a balanced-budget win.

What Sigivald said about constitutional power.
There’s a job to do and it needs to be done right. When it’s done, there’s proven precedent that it can be scaled back a hell of a lot easier than with those other line items, as we will see.
Both initiatives are exactly what he said he’d do and was overwhelmingly elected to do.

There may also be a long haul big picture- some sort of reformation of the military branches- that has yet to come. So an increased budget would potentially help.
At least that’s how I see it. We may not be scaling back what we spend, but it’s now getting diverted into something worthwhile instead of propaganda.

We have 742,000 civilians working in the DoD. He should have suggested laying off 100k of them to help pay for more actual military.

There are people in this world trying to figure out how to kill us. The military kills them back. Dying ain’t much of a living.

I consider it fair, as they took money from the military (a real issue) to pay for frou-frou programs (which are not a real issue.)
I think USAF, USArmy, USN, USMC and USCG trump (ha, meant that) PBS, NEA, PDQ, MOUSE…
