This device, coupled with a powered exosketeton suit, eventually, inevitably, with just a bit of AI added, leads to Terminators. Do you want Terminators?
If you are so weak that holding a light recoiling 7 lb carbine is such a bother to carry and shoot that you need mechanical support, then I’m going to posit that perhaps you’ve picked the wrong career field, and might want to get into something a bit less physically taxing. Like maybe enrolling in that whole NASA bedrest/spaceflight study.

“This seems like a solution in search of a problem.”
Remember now, combat arms MOSs are open to all hands.

I think Vasquez used something like that.

That might improve my offhand a bit.

All that needs is some attention from the Tracking Point folks.

Just like a sling then.

So what would alleviate the burden associated with the weight (and bulk) of that device?
When I was a Mech Trooper, we had enough weight and bulk to lug around without a lame ass device like that to contend with. I give it a big fail.

This device will be very useful when armies face off across a field in disciplined ranks. So if the US Army finds itself in 1817, they are all set.

@Bill Twist: I tried to sign up for that NASA study, but they wouldn’t let me take my carbine to bed with me, so it was a no go.

I want to see them low crawl through mud with them… then land nav through thickets.

OH, FFS, people.
They’re testing it with the M4 because that’s convenient.
It’s intended, if you bother to read, for heavier weapons, including future ones.
A 4# support arm is stupid for an M4, yes.
But it’s not for an M249 or M240 or various proposed future heavier weaponry.

I recall “third arm inspection”…..

That looks like an optimal weapon for close quarters or jungle use…

Roger beat me to it. I want to try this in a Garand match and see if it improves my offhand scores.

(thinking to self) I wonder how I can get some of that sweet govt grant money? *sees copy of Edge of Tomorrow dvd leaning against desk lamp..*

Looks like this could be the precursor to the Predator shoulder-mounted weapon system.
