The Orlando Night Club Shooting Report
The police basically didn’t do anything for three hours while 13 people died.

I dunno. It seems that increasingly, the police can be criticized for waiting too long to force an end to the situation.
I totally get officer safety, though, I think the victim/hostage safety has to come first.
I also understand not wanting to enter too soon for fear of causing the perp to shoot hostages…but if you are still hearing gunfire…I think you have to go in.

When seconds count… police are hours away.
According to the age old FBI playbook, if they start shooting hostages, you’re supposed to move in.

Thousands of hours of training. Hundreds of thousands in SWAT equipment. Then they stand around outside and do nothing as the citizens they are sworn to protect die by the numbers.

I’m not going to pick on the OPD officer who was working off-duty at the club because: 1) I wasn’t there and don’t know the immediate conditions he had to contend with, and; 2) I don’t trust the Orlando Slantinel for accuracy in anything it publishes. But…
The account – and I assume it reasonably reflects the OPD Chief’s report – states he fired shots at Mateen. Had one or more of those shots struck with substantial effect Things Would Be Different.
Train and practice.
