If taxation is theft
Taxpayers spend 17 hours on average preparing their returns.
I spend much more time than that. My guess is that a lot of people who earn a salary take up a little time and people who run businesses take up a lot. My taxes for 2016 were about 75 pages, a long weekend of my time, several hours of a tax attorney’s time and 4 digit bill from him.
And I wonder how much time is spent on general government compliance? You know, things like OSHA, codes, posting little signs every where, and other various drudgery that is a burden.

I don’t think there is anybody that doesn’t work in the tax industry that wouldn’t be perfectly happy with somewhere between 1 and 10 lines of total tax code, ie:
1. If you earned less than xx then you owe x%
2. If you earned between xx and xx+yy then you owe y%
and maybe something similar for businesses.
No need to call anybody, no reason to fill out a big form. Just do the numbers, one calc, and done. For most people this would already be magically done out of their paychecks.
The libertarian in my says that an income tax is stupid and we survived for a very long time without one and just go for a basic import/export tax and never worry about it again.

“Goverment is just a word for things we choose to do together.”

There is a reason the government hates small businesses. The owners are painfully aware of the taxes they pay. Corporate taxes are done by people whose job it is to prepare them, but not pay them. They are even signed off by someone paid rather than paying. Withholding has anesthetized the salary worker to the point far to many think they are getting something other than their own money back when they get a refund. But the small business owner knows their taxes intimately.
Consider how different things would be if every 90 days everyone had to write a check to the IRS. No auto payments or employer submission permitted.

Withholding was a “temporary wartime measure”… instituted by FDR.
