Where Great Britain Used To Be
I don’t think giving the police the power to shut down people’s phones without cause is a good idea.

If government is your care-taker, lord, master and commander then it makes perfect sense. What’s your problem?

They’re just getting ready for when ‘youths’ start planting cell-phone detonated IEDs.
Personally, I’d drive through London and call every cell phone in range instead.
Work accidents are funny.

Doesn’t anyone remember that Tom Clancy used this idea in his Rainbow Six novels long, long ago? The anti-terror group killed all cell usage around terrorist acts as a matter of course in the novels, to prevent communication between terrorists (I don’t recall IEDs being a thing in these outdated novels, but it has been a while since reading them.) Of course, the fictional warriors did it clandestinely, and only for good reasons.
I, for one, think live upload of police interactions with the public to the web is a good thing for all involved, and serves the interests of justice admirably for both prosecution and defense, as well as for police and the public. Usually. I base this on my laughing out loud several times while watching COPS.

What Lyle said…just give them all the power over everything and everyone.
Now shut up and get in the damn boxcar!
