…total population, 325 million (U.S. Census Bureau, website). not all of those are adults, but i’m not finding a good source as to the fraction of under-21’s in the population right at this moment, so let’s skip that for now.
15/325 comes out to 4.6% of the total population; more than that of the electorate, which is also a fairly good superset of the population eligible for a carry permit in the first place.
granted, politically you CAN piss off one in every twenty voters and still get elected. but it isn’t smart, and few politicians worth any salt at all will do so lightly, because that sort of thing generally won’t make the job of getting elected any easier.
unless that figure of fifteen million permits has got badly exaggerated somehow, it alone means this is not a trend that will be politically balked at all easily.

If you go through the steps of learning a bit about handguns, picking one out, buying it, firing it at a range once or a few times for familiarization or with an instructor, keeping the gun in your home, deciding to carry it in public, learning about the legalities of concealed carry, obtaining the necessary license/permit to do so lawfully, and then doing so, you are bound to come up against the absolute truth that the anti-gun propaganda is essentially all lies.
That is a big problem for the anti-gun side. I am glad of that.

Because of the way the information is worded I don’t think we can say for certain what the total number of people who are licensed to carry is.
I have four permits and I know a lot of other people that have multiple permits as well. I suspect I am counted four times in those numbers.
