Any chemist would tell you that the expiration dates or “best used by” dates are not exact, and never have been, because not all components of the drugs react predictably under wildly varying storage conditions. Some ingredients react poorly to heat, or light, or excessive humidity, which should be obvious to anyone who’s taken at least a high school chem class. Expiration dates are typically chosen to take into consideration that many consumers simply can’t be bothered to, or forget to or don’t know any better than to improperly store their drugs. So, yes, if you store your drugs properly, the expiration dates for many drugs naturally shift further and further into the future. File this under “not news”.
