Why would that be hard to believe? Honest citizens are of course the greatest threat.
The worst nightmare for any authoritarian, whether that authoritarian be a king, a mob boss, a Democrat, a Republican, a communist dictator, a community protest/riot organizer, a petty teenage amateur thief, or the old man nextdoor who wants to have sex with your under-age daughter, is an honest citizenry with guns.
The Republicans’ problem is that, at least for now, they need gun owners’ votes. Otherwise they’d be right on board with the Dems on second amendment violations.
Actually the conclusion the author draws is flawed. He conflates democrat control of a state’s legislative and executive body with the concealed carry rate. While it is valid to look at the laws of those states being the product of the legislature, he assumes that the legislature is imposing their will on the voters.
It seems much more likely that those states are filled with democrats who are more likely to support gun control and much less likely to apply for a permit to carry a concealed handgun. Thus the concealed carry rate and the legislature are both effects of the democrat populace, not the other way ’round.
It is still tyranny of the majority, however, it is primarily caused by the democrat voters, not the legislative body itself.
I agree with ravenwood. States controlled by democeans have, at least, a plurality of Democrats or people with D leanings in them. However, I would also say that the supress the ownership and permits amongst the population as a whole.
The conclusion in the OP isn’t any more wrong then any other over simplification.
I have family in NJ. They have expressed inrest in getting a gun or shooting, but jersey’s laws. Have been effective on discuraging them to this point. That is a simple example that ignores the fact many of his neighbors would never consider buying a gun and would shun him for doing so.
