Wasn’t the StG an inspiration for the AK? Why not acknowledge that in a sculpture? They should work an M1 Garand into the sculpture too, in that case, since the AK uses what is in essence a Garand trigger and rotary cam lockup.
My only question would be whether Kalashnikov actually ever held an StG. I’d rate the chances as fair to good, but should it matter?
So, was that truly a blunder or was it the result of a greater understanding of Kalashnikov’s role in weapons development?
They’d better get that straightened out in a hurry; I understand they’re going to dig Mikhail up in a couple of months, dust him off and put him back to work.

This is the sort of thing that used to get a sculptor a bottle of vodka, a Makarov, and one bullet.

The bottle of vodka and the Makarov were for the executioner. The sculptor would only get the bullet.
