I am incensed, but not surprised that no one has been fired over this. There is a long list of places where I would prefer the government waste it’s money before I would arrive at this particular exercise in bureaucracy. That is before taking into account the type of companies that are “private debt collectors”. Not the most reputable of professions, but perhaps a step up for the folks who outsourced to them in this case.
Actually, they spent $20 million to bring in ALL of the money collected by the treasury.
All that collection effort is is a way to flex their police power. Not letting things go unchecked is why they have to spend that money… even if it only brings in $1
