If you look at the shot weights and velocities, you’ll find that a lot of the 20 gauge is exactly the same as the 12, or so close as no matter, in the medium range loads. Only when you get up to the real magnum stuff is the 12 much different, but even then the magnum or heavy buckshot loads from a 20 are plenty for most things you’d want a shotgun to do. The big difference is in the selection in stock on the shelves, and there the 12 shines.

The Remington Youth Model 20 is unsurprisingly petite, a plus for indoor use.
