I use Quickbooks for my business. If this goes unresolved, I will no longer use it.

    Xero…

I hate to keep cutting ties with companies, but… screw them.

Sometimes there is a severe price for nobility, though.

Well, let’s see how that works out. Starting a chat with Xero under a pseudonym:

Xero (5/22/2018, 6:19:12 PM): Hi there! Welcome to Xero Chat!
I’m Nicholas – how can I help you today?
Me (5/22/2018, 6:20:23 PM): Hi Nick. I shopping around for accounting software because Intuit has made it clear they don’t want to do business with my kind of business. I’m looking to start up a small business in the firearms industry. Would that cause any problems with Xero?
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:20:27 PM): Hello George,
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:22:22 PM): Glad that you’ve looked in to Xero. In Xero we do not have a any restrictions regarding of the business that our clients have. In line with this do you have specific features that you are looking for?
Me (5/22/2018, 6:23:26 PM): It’s a relief. I’m finding some of the other small businesses in this industry are getting ambushed by companies willing to start a relationship, get paid for set up, then actually drop the service after a couple months.
Me (5/22/2018, 6:24:25 PM): We’d be looking at online retail sales of non-firearm items, manufacturing of some items that require handling through FFLs, but those would go through the usual B2B and invoicing process, as we can’t sell those directly.
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:26:45 PM): Got it, with regards of manufacturing Xero’s inventory module is basic. It can only tracked and untracked the numbers of item on hand. But we actually have add-on partners that can surely helps you with Manufacturing. Here’s the list: https://www.xero.com/us/marketplace/app-function/s/inventory/
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:26:53 PM): Most of these apps offer free trial as well. If you sign up for a Xero free trial, you can test the integration for free. There is absolutely no risk for you. You can cancel at any time if you feel that Xero is not for you. Xero wont even ask for your Credit Card or Banking Details. You can sign up for one here https://www.xero.com/signup/
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:27:04 PM): Are there any other features that you are looking for?
Me (5/22/2018, 6:27:40 PM): Not at the moment. I’d just doing my due diligence to make sure I sign up with someone that is not going to shaft me a couple months down the line.
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:29:19 PM): Just to assure moving to Xero will be a best thing do. You can reach out to our support regarding this matter. You can send them an email at. support@xero.com
Xero (5/22/2018, 6:29:35 PM): Would there be anything else that I can help you with?
Me (5/22/2018, 6:29:52 PM): Thanks, Nick. Please let your supervisor know that I was very satisfied with our discussion.

  5. Lyle Says:

Shit. We use QB. Well, not for long apparently.

That’s the pattern we’re seeing though, isn’t it; lure us in with whiz-bang technology, so we’re all using it, and then use it to fuck with us. Cute. Hah, hah, very funny.

  6. deadcenter Says:

    Dear Intuit,

I paid for your software, now bake me my cake you bigot.

  7. aerodawg Says:

I know some of the guys at FRA personally. Good group. Intuit isn’t getting any more of my $ after this. Unfortunately I bought QB desktop so that money won’t come back but no more turbotax….

  8. Nomen Nescio Says:

moving off of quickbooks is a smart idea anyway. unless your business is a literal one-man shop, with one single computer in the corporate “network”, you’d soon outgrow that product. my previous job did, which hurt both the accounting department and the IT staff.

  9. The Freeholder Says:

I have no idea of their position on firearms businesses, but another to explore is Freshbooks. When I was still working we used other software in their stable and were quite happy with the products and the service.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
