There are plenty of uses for a rifle, and there are plenty of uses for a chainsaw. But a chainsaw attached to a rifle? Not so much.
I did have to “shoot my way out” of the woods some years ago. There was a fallen tree over the road, blocking my way out. It was lodged between other trees on both sides, so there was no way to pull it free using a tow strap. I had no chainsaw. But I did have a 30 Carbine. Ninety-some rounds later I had the log cut through well enough to break it free. My two young kids, which were with me at the time, found it entertaining, as did I.
Bring a saw though– It works a lot better, and it works best when it’s not attached to your rifle.

But the chainsaw bayonet was already a thing.

USA Today just thought that it was a popular thing, and not a goofy thing that some folks made to be cute.
