Definitely inside job . You have to pay a premium to ship any firearm with UPS ; usually expedited or over-night supposedly to prevent their ” employees ” from stealing your stuff .
Overnight has been a UPS requirement for handguns since the 90’s, instituted soon after I received a shipment from Williams Armory that was much lighter than it should have been, which turned out to be because at the Atlanta hub the box had been opened, the handguns removed from their boxes, the boxes replaced in the carton, and the carton resealed. It was my first experience with what my rep at Williams told me was a major and growing problem. I later heard that an elaborate video security system installed to stem the thefts was itself stolen.
Memphis and Atlanta…wonder what the common denominator is there?
BTW, the Colt LE6920 that I ordered after a heads-up on a screaming deal by Unc passed through that Memphis hub two days before this heist. Fortunately it was delivered to my FFL today and I will pick it up tomorrow…hopefully it won’t be an empty box.
Picked up the Colt today, nice piece, heavy though compared to the little Smith Sports. But, sold the last Smith I bought as an extra for 600 and paid 700 for the LE6920, free ship and no tax. Only extra was 20 to my FFL for transfer and NICS…can’t beat that.
Heads up for fellow Floridiots, our formerly solid conservative gov Scott’s kneejerk cave after Parkland went into effect Monday meaning a 3 day wait for long guns as well as handguns, stupid shit. Conceal permit exempts from that but I didn’t have it so if I hadn’t thought of forwarding the dealer the email receipt showing it was paid 10 days ago which exempted from the wait, I’d have had to leave it there and make another trip. like I said stupid shit. Nice gun and a great deal though, so all’s well.
If I acquire any more guns, especially semi-auto rifles, I will try to find them by private sale. I understand that 4473’s are required to be kept for 20 years by FFL’s, but the law prohibits the fedgov from keeping those records as a gun registry–they say.

treefroggy, stand by for “Super-Duper Not-A-Gun Really-Not-A-Gun Red Label Service” for a small phenomenal surcharge.
Which won’t work.
And note that the Red Label and Priority Overnight requirements are generated by the carrier; not by any law.
