I understand “making a point,” and that even commenting on the issue from my distance isn’t helping expand gun rights in Florida. But I think the “this doesn’t help” title reflects the fact that the voting public has become so addicted to graphics (Instagram, selfies, etc.) and reading shy that a single image of a man carrying a home-brew 30-pound medieval weapon on the dock trumps thousands of written words…unfortunately.
It isn’t actually hurting, now is it? And this guy shifted the Overton Window on carrying guns in public by about 4 or 5 orders of magnitude by doing so peacefully.
Anybody who saw this guy, will when faced with a holstered Glock on another person, will think, “This person isn’t nearly as scary as that other guy, and anyway, that other guy wasn’t really scary, now was he?”
If it’s to make a point it’s making the wrong one.
What part of “all is perception” do some not understand? Yes they got seriously dicked around by ignorant popo before, but this outing as presented to the blue people will not convey that but only further alienate them and confirm that wrong perception. I still think this shit is more for the attention it gets than any real education function. The kind of thing some might call out as “false flag” if it weren’t so dumb that even subversive anti”s wouldn’t do it.
BTW, we Floridiots had OC forever until we got CC and a bad trade was made, been trying to undo it ever since and were getting closer until the school shooting and our heretofore solidly conservative governor gave away the store. But we ain’t seen shit on state restrictions depending on what happens in our gov race; if the black socialist Berner gets in and he might, any improvement of any kind on gun rights will be shut down. Need to focus on not losing more of our gun freedoms right now; I will quite certainly leave the state after 60 years if Gillum does get elected as it will be proof to me that they have finally flipped this multi-personality disordered state from red to blue to brown and black. Socialism in teh fla? So sad.
For the first week after the hurricane, I carried openly all over Cape San Blas and Port Saint Joe. I carried at the Courthouse, at the Guard Staging area, and at the refugee center. Not once did anyone question me or even look sideways at the Glock. When the police are actually busy, they don’t seem to have time to investigate the fear of guns.

Except when you note that this is a response to an incident where 6 men were detained at gunpoint for open carrying with pistols.
But when the next event had several dozen people open carrying rifles and other such items, they were met with polite professionalism.
I think they proved quite well that the detention was politically motivated, not due to public safety or scared bystanders.

I agree. The 2A is supposed to be a check on government tyranny. OC in this case was a way of making a point.

I think this is only good for getting your name on a list, but have no problem with those who want to play that game.
I personally would rather my involvement in the coming unpleasantness to be a bit more of a surprise.

There’s no nice way to ask, “OK, then what are YOU doing to advance the expansion of gun rights in Florida?”
Anything?
Anything at all?
Come on, name something.
Or are you just sitting, far away, armchair quarterbacking it?
Thought so.

I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means.
Five orders of magnitude would be something like “people now accept toddlers carrying machine pistols”.

Prodding the dragon, just to provoke his ire, is seldom a good idea.
