Because someone decided that the Desert Eagle would finally begin to sell like hot cakes if only it came chambered for a new, boutique cartridge. Well, if the 429 makes the thing run reliably somehow, maybe it will sell some DEs.
I’ve long thought that the 50AE was neat, but the two Desert Eagles I’ve fired, one in 50 and one in 44, both jammed more than they did anything else. In fact, the jamming is the only thing I remember about firing them. At some point one has an epiphany, and remembers; “Oh yeah!…there are some very nice revolvers chambered for powerful cartridges!”

I’ve never shot one but every DE I’ve seen run at the range has functioned exactly as Lyle describes.
