SHOULD YOUR FOLDING KNIFE BE CARRIED TIP UP OR TIP DOWN?
Mine is tip up because I have an Emerson with The Wave.

The way I see it, a folding knife that doesn’t securely stay folded is trash and should not be used anywhere for any purpose. It certainly doesn’t belong in a pocket. Suggesting that such a defective product needs to be carried “tip down” makes no sense at all.

FWIW, I carry my little Kershaw assisted-opener with the tip pointing rearwards. I carry the Swiss Army Knife with tips pointed both up and down.

Out of sight. I never use the clip.

Smallish lockblade, pocket carried, tip orientation random.

I carry mine with the open end of the clip down.
It’s kinda hard to fasten to the pocket otherwise. 😉

My two “youngest”, a button-lock switchblade and a framelock ball bearing flipper (which BTW is faster than the switchblade), come with the clip positioned so that if I use the clip in my right hand pants pocket, the knife will be point up and the blade against the outside seam of the pocket helping keep it closed. But concealment is more important to me.

I carry tip up. But I use the “wave” to open. (The wave clips to the pocket as I pull up opening the blade in one movement. Also, eats up pants after a few years.)

Waved delica IV, obviously carried tip up. If I’m in a less knife friendly environment, it’s another spyderco, the dragonfly II, also tip up. Apart from the wave and clips tearing up my pockets a wee bit, never had any issues with them.
Anyway, interesting article, Unc, thanks for linking it.
