Either:
1. They vote in pro-gun politicians and restore their rights,
or
2. They use their guns against the authorities and win back their rights,
or
3. In the long-run the gun-grabbers win and the in a generation the hidden guns are as meaningless as the hidden WWII guns in Europe.
In doing a little digging, it seems that the reluctance isn’t necessarily because of a strong pro “right to keep and bear arms” feeling amongst the Kiwis, but more along the lines of not being sure about whether they are actually going to be compensated for fair value for the guns, and for firearm model-specific accessories that would be made worthless without the guns they go to.
I wouldn’t read too much into that reluctance, because the government there has yet to sort out the details of how it’s going to work. Once they do that, then you can get an idea of how much resistance there is going to be.
Perhaps if government agents should LEAD BY EXAMPLE and destroy their guns which they want to force the people to turn in, then more would follow. Oh, and the wealthy and celebrity elites should have their private security forces the same.
If you ever want to shut down an anti gunner in a debate, just insist that gun control laws apply to EVERYONE. You know, according to “the equal protection of the laws” (14th Amendment) and the current mantra, “no one is above the law”.

I’m not surprised. It’s an island nation. Lots of water means lots of boating accidents.
