It’s what they’ve lobbied for, so they should be glad. I mean, it’s taken them over a hundred years though, so maybe they’re pissed that they haven’t gotten the murder rates up as high as they’d wanted, as soon as they’d wanted.
In Russia for example the counter-Reformation had it sewn up by the early 20th Century, and in China in the 1940s. The U.S. has been a rather more tough nut to crack!
Chicago has no gun control. See McDonald v. City of Chicago and Madigan v. Moore.
I read, back-when, that the City Council was considering banning laser dots on CCW guns (which said CCW is “shall issue” BTW). I suppose the cat lobby was worried that cats would run into the line of fire. I don’t know if they ever passed it.
My daughter was on her way to Gilroy when her girlfriend called to tell her it was very hot.
She turned around and went home.
The girl that called, texted her and said “A girl standing next to me just got shot!”
Luck.
Chicago has an effective ban on handgun possession (with a very small number of “registered” handguns grandfathered in) for those who do not hold an Illinois Concealed Carry License (CCL).
I’ve been watching very closely for CCL holder arrests and charges. So far, with something close to 300,000 CCL holders here, we’ve had three CCL holders arrested and zero charged, that I know of so far. In other words, none of the gangbangers who are committing violent crimes with guns in Chicago appear to have this exception apply to them.
Amongst the Shall Issue states, Illinois has what I believe to be the strictest training and background check requirements. Illinois also imposes a very high cost on the CCL relative to other Shall Issue states. This could be looked at as a statewide economic gun control action. In fact, it was done overtly and deliberately to keep the “wrong” people from obtaining CCLs. I read this as having been overtly racist.
Chicago and Cook County (which contains all but a tiny sliver of Chicago) both have “assault weapon” bans which apply to a large number of long guns. I haven’t been following this issue as closely but as far as I can tell, the vast majority of long arms used by gangbangers would fall under one or both of these “assault weapon” bans.

Not to worry or anything; they’ll get us there.

With respect, nk, you are mistaken.
