I’ve learned that any time you read a story like this–where one side seems to be grossly overreacting to some minor point and the cops didn’t tell them to get a life–it’s because the reporters are not reporting some crucial fact that makes the overreaction completely reasonable.
Like, say, that the assailant did this at close range when the game was not actually in progress or the victim was on the sidelines not playing. I don’t know what happened here, but I bet the reporters do.
Sensationalist headline. It wasnt dodgeball. It was a game played with a dodge ball. It seems like it was a malicious act that resulted in a hospital visit.
my hunch is that the aggressor waited until the other kid wasn’t looking, then hit him in the face up close. you don’t get a black eye and a concussion playing normal dodgeball.
Don’t bet on reporters knowing things they don’t report, or getting facts correct, or not writing the story to be way more controversial than it actually is.
Your only safe bet is that the reporter is an idiot doing a sloppy job and that the editor is, too.

I’m just glad that kids still play dodgeball.
When we were young, we would play smear the queer at recess.
Along with tackle football.
