Since this argument has been around since I started reading about guns in about 1970, I’d feel safe in saying at least 50 years, so far.
Surely somebody has at some time in the past decades put aside 100 loaded magazines to shoot off, one per year, to check reliability versus time the way a renowned gun blogger shoots 2000 rounds through a pistol to check reliability versus fouling? I hope I’m alive to see the results.

There’s an experiment that’s already been done about that pretty much just how you suggest. Saw it on Youtube a few years ago.

I keep lots of magazines loaded. If they fail.. I got others.
