Cool
Sig has some surplus M17s and they’re selling them. This would be the first time a private citizen could buy a new military gun in a long time.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

‘Cool’. A cool $700, that is.
I’ll wait a bit.

I received that email from Sig a few days ago and already contacted my Sig guy asking if he had any!

“First time in a long time”
Define “long time” — The USMC Force Recon’s love affair with the 1911 resulted in the Colt M45A1 pistol, and many of those have since been decommissioned (circa 2016) and sold on the commercial market. They tend to go for around $4,000-5,000.
There’s also the matter of things like the KAC M110s that have leaked out of the military–They’re not necessarily huge in number, but they definitely exist.
The real key seems to be, like in this case, that they’ve been returned to the manufacturers intact, and that the manufacturers have been the ones to sell them on the commercial market.

Not exactly. The US Army released 5000 M17 Commemorative pistols last year that are issue guns. Just with custom serial numbers but with the US Army manufacturing codes.
Getting a surplus M17 would be nice to add to that. Because one does not shoot a Commemorative.
I’m on the list for a surplus M17 if my dealer manages to snag a few.
