I’ve owned a full-size XD in .45ACP for some years. It’s a very pleasant shooting pistol and the grip safety is like the one on my beloved M1911A1. I’ve had no issues with it over the years.
Guess one guy’s opinion is his and not necessarily scripture.
My first pistol was a service-model XD in 9mm. I didn’t have the problem of the grip spring breaking and disabling the slide with a live round chambered, but I definitely had to pound the striker retaining pin back in every time I took it to the range or did much dry-firing.
I’ve been carrying my XD-M in 10mm for some time, and I think it’s quite nice. There have been no malfunctions in firing about a thousand handloads, and “enough” factory hollow point to qualify 2 magazines. The trigger is better than my Glock 20, even with a reduced weight connector. The magazines are thick stainless steel and appear to be built like a hammer. One thing that influenced my choice was one XD-M 10 firing 10,000 rounds of factory hollow point with zero malfunctions, every shot videoed. I think the 10mm has finally found a comfy home.

I like my full-size XD in .45ACP as well. Never had any issues with it. Though lately I’ve been into Sigs and that is what I usually carry.
