Customer Service
I mentioned the problems I was having with the Walther P22 in this review. I thought I had managed to fix the problem of the magazine ejecting by modifying my shooting grip. Well, that only worked one day. Since, it has done it again. When I fire the gun, the magazine ejects. This happens quite regularly and more so with the extended magazine than with the non-extended one. I’ve even had two other people shoot it to make sure it wasn’t me and they had the same problem. So, I called Smith and Wesson, who imports the Walther. I talked to a guy and told him the problem. Without hesitating, he told me that he would be sending me a UPS call tag and that I could ship it back to them and they would either fix it or replace it. Now, that’s service. It’s not often that I’m impressed with customer service anywhere and gun manufactures are notorious for providing bad customer service. I was pleasantly surprised by this and think it speaks volumes.

S&W’s customer service has been consistently impressive these last five years or so.

I have a friend that had a Walther P99 with the Titanium slide. A couple of discoloured, tiny, tiny spots developed on it (he kept the thing quite clean). He called S&W, they told him to send it to them and they would replace it. He requested that they put on the black slide instead of the titatium slide, and they did so without hesitating.

Their customer service is definitely good, and it definitely goes back 5 years or more. When I got my 910* in late 1999, the magazine disconnect did not work. I know, some people purposely disable theirs, but I wanted in mine in factory-original, exactly like it says in the manual, condition. I’d call it probably the least-hassle customer service phone call I ever had, and they turned it around pretty quick, too.

*Since the AWB expired, I’ve decided to give it a promotion and call it a 915, but at the time it was merely a 910. 🙂

[…] I mentioned that I had to send the Walther back to Smith and Wesson for repairs. I got it back yesterday with a letter detailing the work they did (they replaced a spring and test fired it). They picked up the shipping and it fixed and returned in less than two weeks. Now that is service! I applaud Smith and Wesson for taking good care of their customers. […]
