9mm as SBR
I’m thinking about turning El Nino into a short barreled rifle (pay the $200 tax, get law enforcement sign off, yada yada). Now, through the magic of photoshop and my first real effort photoshopping an image and not just inserting text, I present what El Nino would look like with a 10.5 inch barrel:
And before I butchered it:

Aren’t there feeding and reliability issues when the barrels get that short? I thought that I had read that, but don’t recall where. If that is not an issue, I like your idea.

Not for 9mm, typically. With the 5.56 Nato, I’ve heard there can be some problems like that. Also, they lose their effectiveness and spit a fireball.

Now THAT looks proportional!

There can be in the .223 rifles, gas operated as they are. There are myriad fixes for the reliability issues associated with shorty .223 carbines.
However, the 9mm is mass-delayed blowback, and as long as you have even a few inches of barrel, it will run just fine. 9mm doesn’t have the power to use more than 10″ of barrel, so you’re not losing anything in a 9mm SBR – I’m building one next month.

I’ve got a .223-5.56 Bushmaster shorty and just love it. My next purchase will likely be a 7″ 9mm upper from ADCO.
My dealer ordered it direct from Bushmaster which means there’s no secondary SOT markings on it. Of course it also took a full year to take possession on. (BM farted around with the order and didn’t even deliver the rifle until late Sept.)

I see you’ve turned it into a saddle-ring carbine.
Single point sling systems are easy to work with, and solve a lot of problems simply and elegantly.

Just get a Gemtech upper – a supressed short barrel without the second $200 tax. Then let me shoot it. 🙂

No longer a trunk gun…it is now a glove box gun.
