NOT safe. PVC pipe is _not_ safe for pressurized air usage. A crack will lead to catastrophic failure of the tank — the failure mode is quite different than failure with a _liquid_ under pressure. With pressurized liquid, an opening will cause a large drop in the pressure; with pressurized air, the pressure drops slowly but the crack has severly weakened the tank and it (the crack) will continue to expand at a rapid rate.
