Top Ten Guns
No, this is not one of those lists where someone posts their favorite guns and then Kim tells us that Glocks and AR-15s suck. No, this is the top 10 guns used in crime as reported by the ATF (note data is from 2002):
1. Smith and Wesson .38 revolver
2. Ruger 9 mm semiautomatic
3. Lorcin Engineering .380 semiautomatic
4. Raven Arms .25 semiautomatic
5. Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun
6. Smith and Wesson 9mm semiautomatic
7. Smith and Wesson .357 revolver
8. Bryco Arms 9mm semiautomatic
9. Bryco Arms .380 semiautomatic
10. Davis Industries .380 semiautomatic
Notice 1) a trend and 2) what’s missing?
Update: From PN NJ in comments, FBI stats on guns used to kill police.

1) The Trend: Smith & Wesson is knowingly selling “crime guns” to criminals because obviously, there is no way that criminals can obtain them illegally.
2) What’s Missing: Someone intentionally left full-auto AK-47’s off the list. Because if there is one thing i’ve learned from the media, full-auto AK’s are the crime weapon of choice.

What no Hi-Points?

Duck: I think these stats are shooting-related. Hi-points are better used as clubs.

Well that is true.
I have had plenty in ccw classes, it is a groan everytime a newbe brings one in

I own 3 out of 10, I guess I am an exception to the rule as the guns havent started calling me to commit a violent crime.

Heh, I have two categories out of 10, five all together.
Wonder how long before they shatter my will and force me into crime?
November 8th, 2007 at 11:14 am
Well if we keep them locked in our gun safes, they won’t be able to overpower us ;-}

Two out of ten here. Considered who makes most of the others — Bryco, Davis, Lorcin — I doubt I’ll have more.

Mossberg, but not Remington?
But it’s not strange the the only long-arm is a shotgun. Stastically, shotgun wounds are more likely to result in death than any other wound. (Handgun wounds are, statistically, the most survivable. Rifle wounds fall in the middle…)

Did you look at the table linked?
Not from a numbers perspective, but from a website / graphics perspective?
It is frickin’ horrible!
If I presented that table layout and those graphics to a customer I wouldn’t even be given a chance to show page 2.
That is a huge waste of tax-dollars there…..

At least now we know who’s using those Lorcins, Davis’, and Brycos.
Hmmm…. wasn’t the S&W .38 the standard police issue for a long time? Wonder what happened to all of them when departments switched to self-loaders? Ah well, I’m sure wherever they wound up, it’s not a problem.

I don’t own a single piece on the list. Most of mine are the far more friendly and family-oriented ones, like AKs, AR-15s, M1As, Carbines, autoloading shotguns, mid-priced auto pistols, etc..
And a huge omission from the list– those awesome, ultra-scary, magically-deadly and magically accurate-from-nineteen-miles-away 50 BMG rifles that we all know are carried inside those baggy pants of street criminals everywhere, and that terrorists are using daily to take down 747 airliners with a single shot!
