A thought
So, is it the policy of ATF to repeat anti-gun misinformation in the press in an effort to expand gun control? I think so. Seems it would add to job security.
Semi-autos are not what soldiers carry.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Gosh, if the ATF “accidentally” raided my basement, they’d find:
FN handguns
AK-style rifles
Other pistols
.50 BMG ammo…the kind used to shoot down airliners.
They’d also find a lot of other hardware that could be construed to be “weapons of war”.
I must be some kind of criminal

It is rumored that those who fail to qualify for other federal agencies end up in the ATF. What I want to know is why we want to give tax collectors arrest powers?

A few years ago the ATF was moved from the Department of Treasury to the DOJ. Internally (IIRC) they are divided between enforcement and inspection/revenue. Inspection comes about for FFLs, explosive storage (this is where I fit in), alcohol production/labeling, etc. The enforcement folks are “just across the hall”, wear body armor and masks, have fake IDs, and make house calls at 3:00 AM.
They are now law enforcement as well as tax collectors.

Agents said Thursday they found the 42 weapons in a storage locker about 10 days ago. There guns were worth $250,000 in all: Belgian-made “FN” handguns, semiautomatic AK rifles and other pistols. They also found four olive boxes loaded with 50-caliber bullets—ammunition that’s big enough to take out an airplane.
“These are, quite frankly, weapons of war,” ATF special agent Tom Mangan said as he picked up an assault rifle and examined it.
“The type of fire power you’re seeing here is on the increase,” he said. “You’re seeing sophisticated weapons, military weapons, assault type weapons, assault pistols, very expensive pistols.”
ATF officials said gun runners typically gather large caches of weapons anonymously through “straw” purchases. They might give someone $100 to go into a gun show or a Wal-Mart and buy a few rifles at a time. They might buy guns over the Internet
This sounds like something that the Brady bunch would post. And these clowns are responsible for enforcing firearm laws?
Can someone point out to me the Wal-marts and gun shows where I can “buy a few rifles at a time” for $100?

I know .30 caliber machine guns were used against aircraft “back in the day”. So, someone could claim a .30 cal to be an “anti-aircraft” gun.
The ATF should know better that Americans can own military weapons:
1861 Springfield rifles
1903 Springfield rifles
Colt Army/Navy Blackpowder revolvers
Shotguns (Remington, Mossberg, etc.)
M1911 pistols
M9 pistol
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
…And many more…
