Surgeon General Pick
Obama is looking to tap Sanjay Gupta to be surgeon general. Gupta also cut his chops as a CNN medical correspondent. Gupta is a righteous drug warrior. And has penned an anti-gun piece in Economic Times of India:
However, wouldn’t it help ease the problem if the factories of death are outlawed and gun production comes to a halt? Without doubt, a rich shareholder or maybe two will protest or lobby. But at the least, profits and violence will not have legitimate co-relation! Shouldn’t this issue hold pole position every time guns are used to commit acts of crime?
Change you can believe in.
Update: In comments, Dan points out it is likely the wrong Sanjay Gupta.

For a brief moment, I thought the title said “Surgeon General Prick”

Cars are often used in the commission of crimes, sometimes directly and other times for fleeing the scene. Automobiles are also often involved in deaths and injuries caused by irresponsible misuse, as in drunk-driving incidents. Clearly, we should outlaw the manufacture and sale of motor vehicles for privet use and ownership, to prevent them from being used irresponsibly. Citizens can, after all, rely on various private and public transportation solutions, like city buses and Amtrak, to cover any transportation needs they may have.
Or we could let people be adults. I dunno.

Er. Outlaw for ‘private use’, not ‘privet use’. Using cars for a hedge may or may not violate your agreement with the homeowners’ association, though.

A name like Sanjay Gupta is about as common in India as “John Smith” is here, fyi.
Still, it’s precisely the wrong conclusion for an Indian news columnist to draw from the Mumbai massacre…

What’s responsible for more deaths each year than guns? Doctors and prescription drugs.
