Panic Mode
The DOJ is panicking over the coming congressional investigation into ATF sending guns to Mexico.
The DOJ is panicking over the coming congressional investigation into ATF sending guns to Mexico.
US and Mexican groups are going to hold their breath until Barack Obama does somethingtm about gun laws:
The first demand being made of Obama is an immediate ban on imports of assault rifles into the United States “because most are (later) sent as contraband to Mexico,” the groups said.
Uhm, that’s already done. Sporting purposes language and all. I know you’re not serious because you don’t the laws nor what the president can do. The rest of their ‘demands’ consist of giving ATF more power. Really? The same ATF that smuggled over 1,000 guns in to Mexico?
Notably absent from their demands is effective border control.
DEA recovers a trash can full of AKs. Turns out, some of those were guns that ATF allowed into Mexico. The DEA is not giving them back.
Hmm:
CBS News has learned that virtually all the top ATF managers in Phoenix involved in the controversial “Fast and Furious” operation have been reassigned and replaced. The shake-up comes in the wake of the gunwalking scandal in which ATF allegedly allowed more than 2500 weapons to hit the streets or “walk.”
An employee:
Management is going to order me to produce documentary evidence on a Program and Operation they say was fully within…ethical boundaries of law enforcement and initially claimed didn’t exist? Headquarters personnel are going to review these documents for value? After Headquarters has lied and covered-up and stonewalled this for several months?
The ‘study’s’ list of responses is full of spam and other oddities.
Publishing the names, email addresses and phone numbers of those who responded.
To keep the world safe from terrorists, ATF says a license is required for the little guns that orchardists use to dispatch birds that may damage their flowers. First, firecrackers and now this.
Why does the federal government seem to enjoy tormenting people who like orchids?
Via gunmart, who has video.
I’m not sure what’s more fun to say orchardists or bird bangers?
ATF whistle-blower on fox business talking about ATF letting guns into Mexico.
The ATF, having solved all of those pesky problems with running guns to Mexico, has decided to crack down on seal bombs. These are apparently firecrackers that fishermen use to scare seals and birds away from their fishing lines. Seriously:
Fishermen were warned that as of May 1, the ATF would enforce a federal law that requires anyone using a seal bomb or bird bomb — a noisemaker widely used in California to keep marine mammals at bay, protect vineyards and other crops, and keep seagulls off landfills — to go through a background check and obtain a special permit.
The animal “bombs” vary in design but generally resemble M-80 firecrackers that are shot out of a gun. They are designed to frighten a bird or sea mammal but not hurt them. Because they can contain flash powder, the ATF considers them “high explosives” that can cause serious harm if they were to fall into the wrong hands.
“You don’t just let any kid on the street use them,” said Helen Dunkel, a spokeswoman for ATF’s San Francisco division. “There’s too many opportunities for unlawful users to buy them, and there’s no paper trail for that.”
Eye on the prize, I guess. And:
As May approached, a rumor spread around Bay Area docks that seal bombs were now illegal and that ATF agents would be boarding their boats to seize the guns.
“We aren’t going to start rounding up people and seizing these things,” Dunkel said.
I feel safer knowing that you will rid the world of the scourge of unauthorized and unregistered firecrackers.
Holder’s assistant AG authorized wiretaps in ATF’s gunrunning scandal. I’m getting a little nervous. Last time I remember congress investigating malfeasance at ATF, some idiot blew up a Ryder truck in front of a federal building, drawing attention from the investigation.
My understanding is that AG Holder claims that he only heard of the gun running operation in the last couple of weeks. You really don’t peruse the news or have someone peruse the news looking for blips about agencies for which you are responsible? You either lie or are a shitty manager.
And Grassley sends him a nasty note.
Hmm: Large portion of firearms in Mexico’s violence come from the U.S. government
And: What’s Really Happening Along the US/Mexico Border?
To get to the bottom of this ATF smuggling guns into Mexico thing.
Federal law enforcement agents say they are focusing efforts on Jackson because the city is a “hot spot” for illegal gun crimes in the region that covers Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
Mexico wants to sue US gun makers because our guns go over their border. First, I’m pretty sure that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act prohibits that. Second, a good way to keep our guns out of your country would be, say, effective border control.
And, you know, most of your guns are coming from the south or from your own army.
Emails from firearms dealer showing concerns about ATF allowing guns into Mexico are damning.
Looks like they’re kicking the old guy out and replacing him over this allowing guns to Mexico thing. Good.
His subpoena to ATF asking about them allowing guns into Mexico.
Speaking of ATF, Michelle Malkin says it’s a terrible idea to put an anti-gun politician from Chicago in charge of the agency. Well, yeah.
Suddenly, it’s like a lot of blogs are paying attention to the issue. Any way, a round up of the ATF shenanigans:
A shocking admission: U.S. admits that Mexican cartels get military weaponry from Central America. That, of course, didn’t fit the narrative so they had to make reality fit the narrative.
