Build your own 9MM AR-15

Friday, March 17th, 2006

I was going to sit down and do a post on what you need to build a 9mm AR-15 or convert a 5.56 Nato to a 9MM. But Marc beat me to it a while back and I somehow missed it. So, go read how to Build Your Own 9mm AR-15 Lower. He has pictures […]

9MM AR-15 done and range report

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

The UPS man arrived yesterday bearing presents. Enough presents to finish up the 9mm AR build. I received the Rock River Arms upper receiver from Steve at ADCO Firearms. And I must say hats off to Steve. I ordered this on Sunday night and it arrived on Wednesday. I figure he wasn’t working Sunday, processed […]

Zero Distance for a Home-Defense AR-15

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

A discussion at Shooting Illustrated I went with 10 yards with my 9mm.

9mm performance with barrel length

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Seen at arfcom, a chart that shows how 9mm AR-15 velocity in feet per second changes by barrel length (thanks to Randall Rausch at www.ar15barrels.com):

9mm as SBR

Friday, March 17th, 2006

I’m thinking about turning El Nino into a short barreled rifle (pay the $200 tax, get law enforcement sign off, yada yada). Now, through the magic of photoshop and my first real effort photoshopping an image and not just inserting text, I present what El Nino would look like with a 10.5 inch barrel: And […]

Build your own AR-15 Cleaning-Assembly Cradle

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

You see these for sale and they run between $20 and $50. I decided to build my own, from stuff I had around the house. You’ll need one long board (mine is 40 inches by 12 inches), one small board, two wood screws and some sort of sealant. I cut the small board (1′ by […]

9mm AR fever

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

It’s quite catchy. Marc has a range report with his.

9mm math

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Tam is showing the guts of her new 9mm AR-15 (which, by the way, is sweet – she let me hold it when I was last in the shop). I did the math on my pending 9mm project: Upper $400 9mm Hammer $15 RRA Mag Block $120 Rear Sight $75 5 magazines $55 Total $665 […]

Gun Porn

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

2019 and 2020 appear to be the year of the pistol caliber carbine. Rise Armament Quarter Circle 10 AR-Platform Pistol 14 years ago*, I had a 9mm AR-15. I got it for the purpose of shooting at the indoor gun range (other cool kids did the same thing). Once I moved to a place where […]

Shooty meet up – more stuff

Monday, December 31st, 2007

The shoot was held at Coal Creek Armory (gratuitous plug due to their holding a time slot for us – so, go buy something) One of the highlights of the range time was shooting Tam’s 44. Cool little revolver. Even if you miss the target, the fireball from it will set the target on fire. […]

Two dumb things I’ve done in the past few days

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

1 – Folks at the range at GBR will recall that the batteries for my EOTech on the 9mm AR-15 had died. I got home and looked for batteries. I found them in the Vltor ModStock that I have on the 9mm AR and that I also happened to buy, in part, because it had […]

The rift

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Via KDT, The WaPo: Zumbo’s fall highlights a fundamental concern of the NRA and many champions of military-style firearms, according to people who follow the organization closely. They do not want American gun owners to make a distinction between assault weapons and traditional hunting guns such as shotguns and rifles. If they did, a rift […]

45ACP AR Guide

Monday, October 30th, 2006

For a while, the 9MM AR-15 was all the rage. Soon, it may be the 45ACP. Here’s a guide to how it’s done.

Harold Ford with guns

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Tam discusses Harold Ford’s trip to the range: After a perfunctory session on the range with a stainless Smith revolver, they came out and settled up. A stainless Smith revolver? Well, had Mr. Ford snagged the full-auto, short-barreled 9mm AR-15 off the wall and sent several hundred rounds down range with a grin on his […]

Fun with the EOTech Donut of Death

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I love the EOTech holographic weapon sight, particularly the reticle. Tam has dubbed the reticle the donut of death. Here’s a picture of the reticle: It is a 1 MOA dot inside a 65 MOA circle (for those not in the know, MOA is roughly one inch at a hundred yards). The dot is good […]

Nice!

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Yes, I have a 9mm AR-15. It would never have occured to me to make a 9mm AK though. But it did occur to Lichtenberg Research, whose slogan is: Because you can…and…it drives them crazy!!! Check them out: Sweet! Update: Here’s a forum thread on the builds.

Proud Papa

Friday, July 21st, 2006

I was in the garage last night working on the 9mm AR-15. Junior was there with me. After some prodding, she looked at me and said: Ay Ahh Fifee Which is 2-year-old for AR-15. I was so proud.

Unclear on the concept

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Looking to SBR my 9mm AR-15 and was dowloading the forms to do that. Check out the form to certify citizenship. Notice anything funny? Well, the only writing on page 2 is notification of compliance with the Paperwork Reduction of Act of 1995. A whole page for that? Funny.

Suppressor bleg

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I want to get a 9mm suppressor for use on my 9mm AR-15 and my SigArms P229. Apparently, the floating style barrel of the Sig usually warrants and adapter of some sort to ensure the weapon cycles. Anyone have any recommendations? I may also use it on my 10/22 and my Walther P-22.

Blogger shoot and where were you?

Monday, April 24th, 2006

You lied. Or probably realized that since the weather was nice you’d rather sit on the patio and have some adult beverages. Got to CCA yesterday for the blogger shoot. They asked how many I thought would be there and I said that, based on emails and comments, I expected about 15 to 20 people. […]

AR as deer rifle

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

I always have some gun project going on. Right now, I have my AK build and my 9mm AR-15 project to fiddle with. But I’m always thinking of the next one. I’ve never really been a hunter, though I did dove hunt some in my youth. I’ve been considering taking it up, specifically deer hunting […]

Jealousy

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Marc has completed his 9mm AR-15 build. I’m green with envy since mine is not done yet.

SPOT on

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Been mulling some options for an optic for the 9mm AR-15 project. Not too keen on putting a $300+ optic on a range plinker. So, I was looking at some other options. Plus the recoil on a 9mm isn’t that great so something heavy duty isn’t completely necessary. Then I found the SPOT torture test […]

Last Call

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

I’m placing the order this afternoon for the $10.99 9mm AR-15 mags. If you’re interested, let me know.

Hammer time

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Perusing the 9mm AR-15 FAQ at AR-15.com, I’ve changed my mind again and think I’ll probably stick with the Olympic system. The reason is the hammer. The Colt system requires a 9mm hammer which will not work with a 5.56 upper. The Olympic system uses a standard hammer. I like to keep my toys compatible. […]

Fun was had by all

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Last night, I went to CCA to meet Les and CounterTop for some shooting. Also, got a chance to reveal my secret identity to Tam and Alston, which had an effect on Alston because, well, through a set of circumstances he knows me. We rented one of the subguns (an H&K MP-5, to be exact) […]

Odds, Ends and a Suppressor Bleg

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

At this point, my employment ends at the end of the year. I do not have another job lined up. During the holidays, with a baby on the way, and a new house in the works, Merry Christmas to me. No, this is not the post where I beg for money and put up a […]

Reloading

Thursday, January 9th, 2020

No, the other kind. Tools to set up reloading for your AR-15. Any of you guys have any advice on reloading? I’m tangentially interested. Not to save money but I want to stock enough primers and boolits to have plenty in stock should the ammo market get all crazy again. I’d only need to re […]

Interesting thought experiment

Thursday, August 29th, 2019

If I were starting my gun collection from scratch I’d start with a couple of black plastic people poppers made by Glock or S&W in 9mm that hold all of the BBs. A couple of Colt 6920s with middy barrels. And a Beretta 1301. And a Pac lite 4 from Tactical Solutions. I’m pretty much […]

Journalism

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

Headline: On duty, in uniform, suburban cops raffled off assault rifle From the article: [Police] were allowed to hawk $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle as a fund-raiser for their union. They also raffled off a Ruger 9mm handgun. Well, which is it?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
