Gun sales up. NSSF looks at December 2008 Data.

New Assault Weapons Ban Coming?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

From Michael Bane, comes The Shooting Wire: Democratic insiders are telling us the firearms industry will be used as an object lesson to both sides of the aisle. To the left, it’s the always-popular smackdown of a group of right-wing loonies (that’s you and me, by the way) who want gunfights on the streets of […]

WaPo sticking to it’s story

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

The Washington Post been one of the perpetuators of the myth that you bitter-clingers have nothing to worry about because Obama really does like the second amendment and has now for like at least 8 months. Nevermind all that stuff he did before, he didn’t mean any of it. So, calm down you dumb, cousin-humping […]

poor, stupid Bryan Miller

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Now, he says that all those articles in the press lately about how gun sales are going up since Obama won the election are just gun lobby propaganda. No, really. I almost pity the man.

Now, you’re just being silly

Gun Sales up ten billion percent

A continuing trend

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Gun sales up. Some folks I talk to in the gun biz say this election is driving sales.

Change you can believe in

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Seems folks don’t really buy into Obama’s claims on guns: Gun sales are going boom around the country as gun owners and gun advocates brace for a potential Democrat in the White House for the first time in almost 10 years. Democrats, meanwhile, say there’s no reason to worry that presidential hopeful Barack Obama would […]

More on the Olofson Case

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

You’ll recall the story of David Olofson (past coverage here). He was supposedly sent to jail for a malfunctioning firearm. Reviewing the report from an ATF field agent don’t seem to jibe with some of Olofson’s claims. The agent claims that the firearm selector switch moved through all three positions (including the naughty switch) and […]

Dump and Run

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Because it’s fun to stir shit up and get under people’s skin, and because the blogging will be quiet for the holiday weekend, I just had to link this comment by Bruce Baugh at Obsidian Wings: I’ve said this before and will again: the very heart of the “widespread gun ownership checks tyranny” argument has […]

When life hands you crap, make crap-ade!

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Paul Helmke, trying to save his job, writes of Heller: Because of this Court decision, proposals such as Brady background checks on all gun sales, limiting bulk sales of handguns, restricting access to military-style assault weapons, and strengthening the power of law enforcement to shut down corrupt gun dealers can now be debated on their […]

Hang together

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Alright, pay attention. This one is important. One of the epic battles we gun rights people face that is far more damaging than anything The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Ownership can ever do is the fighting amongst ourselves. You’ve heard it before. We call hit hunters v. shooters; fudds v. gun nuts; or, as […]

ATF Gets It Right

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

ATF has criticized the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership for lying about trace data: But ATF and gun proponents found flaws in the Brady Center’s calculations. ATF supervisor Todd Reichert in Washington noted that the agency’s data included some gun sales that were originally made as much as 10 years ago, which is much […]

Not quite the impact he thought

Mayor Nutter is good for gun sales.

Retention

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Lautenberg wants to increase the length of time that the feds keep gun records from 24 hours to six months. Ten years, if you’re on the terror watch list (which is the same list that Ted Kennedy was on). Says armed and safe: The name of this charming bit of tyranny? Preserving Records of Terrorist […]

Wally World

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

The AP reports that Wal-Mart has reached an agreement with Mayor Bloomberg’s group. From what I read at first in the AP bit, it looks like Wal-Mart has just agreed to continue following federal law. No big deal. Then, another report said Wally World would set up its own trace system to do what FBI […]

Attributing to malice

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

You know, the quote. Anyway, it seems that a popular website for buying Glock accessories is where both the VT killer and the NIU killer purchased some items. The press coverage is pretty abysmal. To wit: The online gun dealer who sold a weapon to the Virginia Tech shooter said it was an unnerving coincidence […]

Adjudicated Mentally Defective

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Via AC, comes this hysterical Nashville Scene piece by Jeff Woods on Tennessee’s reaction to Virginia Tech: The annual low comedy that is the Tennessee legislature is well under way, and the shenanigans again this year include bills letting supposedly law-abiding citizens carry pistols into saloons, state parks and all sorts of other new places. […]

Interesting

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

So, there was that protest in Virginia I mentioned yesterday. The pro-gun side outnumbered the anti-gun side substantially. And at least one person on the anti-gun side became violent. How does the press report it? Like this: Va. Tech families urge gun control Instead of gun rights activists oppose gun bill. People on both sides […]

Bloomberg on the chair

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Good: Mr. Bloomberg spent the day sitting for a deposition in a civil lawsuit, the first time he has done so as mayor. The defamation case against the mayor was brought by a South Carolina gun salesman who claims the mayor spoke ill of him in the press. The deposition lasted the entire workday, and […]

Another case of the press taking dictation from The Violence Policy Center

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Bernd Debusmann writing at Reuters notes that gun culture in the US is fading. And by notes I mean re-prints Violence Policy Center propaganda. In fact, here’s a link to their study. And by study, I mean a reprint of data from other sources. But it beats their usual method of calling Google searches studies. […]

Excellent

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

The NRA-ILA notes: Representatives Steve King (R-Iowa) and Zach Space (D-Ohio), have introduced H.R. 4900 the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act of 2007.” The bill would roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors, and codify longstanding congressional policies in the firearms arena. This bipartisan bill is a vital step […]

Factually challenged

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Paul Helmke is issuing bogus challenges to candidates: I challenge them to stand up and support meaningful action to reduce gun violence in America. So do I! Put violent criminals in jail and keep them there. Gun control only impacts the law-abiding. I challenge them to work for a strong and permanent ban on military-style […]

I’d still bet on it

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I noted yesterday on the Sullivan confirmation that: Sorry, folks, but it’s a done deal. Mark it. Today, Ryan reports: I just came across the following article, Idaho Senators block ATF Pick. It appears that Second Amendment Senators Mike Crapo and Larry Craig have put a hold on Sullivan’s confirmation. It’s a hold but I’d […]

Unintelligence Report

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Parade (yes, that little rag that gets tucked into the comics section of the Sunday paper) addresses crime guns: Even though crime is on the decline across the U.S., gun violence is actually on the rise. How do guns continue to end up in the hands of criminals? A small group of sellers is responsible: […]

Here comes the assault weapons ban

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Joe Biden doesn’t like babies: Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, praised U.S. Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware for today introducing comprehensive anti-crime legislation including a federal assault weapons ban and an end to the loophole allowing gun sales at gun shows without a Brady background check.

Gun sales up in Missouri.

Again?

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I never get tired of linking to articles that tell us gun sales are up. 14% in the first quarter of 2007.

The Anti-Rights crowd just keep blaming someone else

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Faced with escalating gun violence, the Sacramento City Council […] voted unanimously to require gun owners to report thefts of firearms within 48 hours […] and to require firearms dealers to thumb-print […] record the names and addresses of people who buy ammunition. Um, OK. Similar measures enacted in other cities, including Los Angeles, San […]

Frisco Bloomberging Daly City

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Instead of actually, you know, dealing with their own problems, Mayor Newsom is trying to legislate other cities. A city hit hard by gun violence should not have gun sales at its back door, said Mayor Gavin Newsom, who is expected to announce today that The City is seeking state legislation to end gun shows […]

Correlation

Friday, July 27th, 2007

In Connecticut, gun sales rose after a brutal home invasion left a man’s wife and two daughters dead. I’ve addressed before how tragedies tend to lead to increases in gun sales (NOLA & 9-11, notably). But never have I heard of an individual crime leading to that.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
