ATF Abuses Update

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I noted the language criticizing ATF in the apprporations bill. I got an email from Glen Caroline at NRA noting: Based on our discussion at the GBR, I thought this would be of interest to you; an area detailing where NRA’s efforts, and the efforts of the bloggers, have produced some movement in the area […]

More ATF trouble

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Such sticklers for paperwork. Seems they lost 500 records, and can’t account for some machine guns. More here.

More ATF Woes

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

In the 2008 appropriations bill: The Committee has heard reports that ATF has pursued violation revocations and denials against firearms dealers based on violations that consist largely of record keeping errors of various types that are unlikely to impede tracing investigations or prosecution of individuals who use firearms in crime. The Committee encourages ATF to […]

ATF Hypocricy

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

So, the ATF is going after Red’s Trading Post for willful violations of arbitrary record keeping laws. Such violations have occurred to the tune of about 0.4% and are things like writing Y instead of Yes. You know, retarded government monkey stuff. But what standards does the ATF hold itself to? Not many. An OIG […]

Abrams to go to trial

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

From a presser by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership: Gun Lobbyist and Gun Dealer Sandy Abrams Heads to Trial for Illegal Assault Weapon Sales, Cited for 900 Federal Gun Law Violations Over Nearly a Decade I’m not particularly familiar with the case but I do know that Abrams had said that he was […]

ATF Director’s Confirmation Hearing

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

The AP notes: U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan fielded some tough questions about gun laws while winning praise Wednesday at a Senate confirmation hearing to become director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Sullivan, a former Republican state legislator and district attorney in Massachusetts, was nominated by President Bush for the job in […]

Another audit

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Red’s gets audited again: I ask everyone to contact the US Department of Justice; Office of the Inspector General and click on the button that states “REPORT WASTE, FRAUD OR ABUSE”. This is YOUR money that is being wasted and these are YOUR freedoms that are ultimately being destroyed by the ATF’s agenda of shutting […]

Revolvers for sale

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Les Jones has a S&W Smith & Wesson 625 Jerry Miculek special. Red’s has some 500 & 460s.

Linky without the thinky

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

The Evolution of Form 4473. I’m guessing it’s a Walther P99. Without scale, I couldn’t tell if it is a P99 9mm or a P22 loaded with those stubby Aquila rounds. But then I counted the number in the magazine. OMG can we stop with Hsu puns? In other news, good question. Poor, stupid Fenty: […]

ATF Director

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Ryan Horsely makes the case that Acting ATF Director Michael J. Sullivan should not be confirmed. I concur. Under his leadership, the ATF has continued it’s priority of shutting down lawful gun dealers over clerical violations.

Well, we know where he stands on guns

Friday, August 31st, 2007

With Senator Larry Craig ready to resign for smoking something in the boys room, seems there’s a push to replace him with Ryan Horsely of Red’s Trading Post.

Protest the protest: ammo sales

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Red’s reports record ammo sales. David has a round-up of protests in the news or rather not so much. Cam notes the Two Mom March and has more.

De facto registry

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’ve said it before (here and here). Rustmeister concurred. Now, he notes: Now, from Red’s Trading Post comes this news on how the ATF is pushing gun dealers to adopt an automated system for their 4473’s. Looking a bit more feasible now.

Excellent

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

The NRA steps up to help Red’s Trading Post. The doc is at David’s.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

Ryan Horsley gives the ATF a lesson in the word “willful”

More stellar performance from ATF

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

On the Kwan case (background here): Friday the Judge in US v. Kwan set aside the verdict on the Short Barreled Rifle. There will be a hearing in three weeks to determine if US attorney wants to retry or make motion to dismiss. Seems the ATF mis-represented some facts David notes: The Judge set aside […]

Quick: call the ATF

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

So, the ATF is going after Red’s Trading Post for a clerical error rate measured in fractions of a percentage point on firearms transactions. Meanwhile, the fed.gov loses 190,000 AK-47s and handguns.

For Sale

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

If you want to help out Red’s Trading Post in their legal wrangling with the ATF, head over to GunBroker and buy some of their stuff.

ATF and Gun Shops

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Seen at Red’s: “Since 2002, 85 percent of American firearm manufacturers have been forced to close their doors. Let me repeat that, Mr. Chairman. Since 2002, 85 percent of American firearm manufacturers have been forced to close their doors. Compare that with the number of dealers that are being shut down which is nearly 80% […]

We take it back

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

I noted yesterday that the AG dropped harassment charges agaisnt Red’s. Well, how dare Ryan talk about that: In a stunning reversal, US Attorney Deborah Ferguson has gone back on her agreement to withdraw harassment complaints against Red’s Trading Post. She is apparently angered over Ryan Horsley’s recent public statements defending his actions. Update: At […]

Credible threats and bullshit

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Seems ATF finds Red’s Trading Post taking pics as a credible threat. That got some press coverage. And a mention at Instapundit. The ATF’s push is nonsensical but it continues a trend of bad things for the agency in the last few years, like: A circuit court smacks them down for their ruling on model […]

How dare you use our tactics against us!!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

As Sebastian says: The ATF accusing anyone of intimidation is almost laughable. But it’s true. The ATF seems to think that keeping tabs on their activities and taking their pictures while they’re investigating whether or not i’s were dotted and t’s were crossed is intimidation. David has some of the documents and notes: [ATF] had […]

Really, that’s what you’re looking for?

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I’ve covered Red’s Trading Post before. They are being investigated by the ATF and have a blog documenting that. But this from a local news story seems, err, trite: Monday the agents did find a possible infraction where a date was left off of a transfer slip. Oh Noes!!!! In other news, he may not […]

Red’s Trading Post Blog

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Red’s Trading Post, a gun shop under fire from the ATF for various clerical violations, now has a blog to tell their story. Via David.

Red’s Trading Post Update

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Good news, David Codrea reports that Red’s Trading Post Granted Injunction to Continue Operations. Background here.

Red’s Trading Post gets some press

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

I covered them here. They’re Idaho’s oldest gun shop and the ATF is bringing them a world of hurt over an immaterial amount of clerical errors. Today, they are in the press: A gun shop here is going national with its fight against the federal government. Ryan Horsley’s family-run gun store, Red’s Trading Post, is […]

Red’s Trading Post

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

A gun shop in Idaho is getting shut down by the ATF for clerical violations that don’t exceed a percentage point. The shop, Red’s Trading Post, has set up a website to document its case. They also have a petition here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
