Bloomberg: Make it more illegal
He’s touring the state to pass a law to make carrying a gun while drunk illegal. Odd because, generally, carrying is illegal there anyway. My conspiratorial mind wonders if there’s some attempt to get laws on the books before the Chicago Gun Case?

So, now if you carry while drunk it’s a double illegal gun?

“More illegal” is as dumb as “illegaler” on every level except grammar. Punishing first-degree murder by death makes it way “illegaler” than punishing it with a $50 fine, but that doesn’t mean the distinction doesn’t matter. In this case, the concept doesn’t even apply, as the new law would make it illegal to carry even under most of the circumstances where it would otherwise be legal to carry while not drunk.
Cf. drunk driving laws: if you don’t have a license, it’s already illegal to drive. That doesn’t mean drunk driving laws are irrelevant.

More strict punishment for a crime is not equivalent to making some thing that’s already illegal illegaler.
