The greatest technological advancement of my time
The Mrs. is looking at getting a new ride. And, after a disagreement on brands*, we’ve settled on a couple of options. And they have cooled seats. I’ve had heated seats for a while. But, man, those cooled seats are amazing. Who doesn’t like a little air up their skirt?
* She wanted a GM and I refuse to buy from them since they took the king’s shilling. Good thing other folks make better cars.

Just make sure it’s air and not smoke they’re blowing up there.

Making this an even better idea! Just sayin’

Just remember, all three American manufacturers took huge amounts of federal money; it’s just that Ford was smart about it (big loan guarantees, plus a big zero interest loan, no bankruptcy, no management interference), while Chrysler and GM were stupid about it.
Oh and GM and Chrysler have paid back a hell of a lot more than Ford has. Fords terms are so good they could not pay back in almost forever and it wouldn’t hurt them.
Their PR has been so successful in lying to the American people that they didn’t get a bailout, there’s really no downside for them.

Thanks Chris. Learned something new today 🙂
Yeah, their PR guy/gal needs a helluva raise.

If they’re all in bed with the Feds, I don’t know WTF I’m gonna do when I go to buy a 3/4 ton truck. Toyota and Nissan aren’t making any of those yet…

Glad to See that you’re staying principled. A co-worker of mine railed about GM. He has since bought 2 of them for his daughters. I Guess the Price difference exceeded his sell-out price.
Chris. I am sorry to hear that because I really like ford. Guess I’ll have to stick with those that use rice additive. Of course more parts int the Tundra are made in the U.S. than any of the other manufacturers vehicles.
And it’s not put together by Union Thugs.

Actually, Toyota took out big loan guarantees and a zero interest loan too.
They paid everything back pretty quickly though.

Ford was smart about it. They got the most money they could, at the below market interest rates, with the fewest strings attached.
Ford applied for $11 billion dollars from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program. It received $5.9 billion, payable over 25 years. The catch is, the money is to be used to pay up to 80 percent of the retooling cost for an American plant to build vehicles at least 25 percent more efficient than the ones previously assembled at the facility.
The interest rate on Ford’s loan is four percent. The DOE can make that a zero percent interest deal for the first three years, if need be. It is not a zero interest loan.
Using a Federal loan instead of a normal market one, Ford saves a projected $100 million per $1 billion borrowed–compared with normal market rates).
Disclaimer: I got this information from Al Gore’s intertubes, so it’s probably another global warming gun-control wizzer.

That’s 1/3 of what they did.
