Open Carry Texas has guns banned from more places than Bloomberg
Well, sure:
I personally would put you OCTC members above Moms Demand Action and Bloomberg as enemies of the 2nd Amendment. Why? Because MDA and Bloomberg are pathetically ineffective at getting guns banned. You open carry clowns are effective. You’re succeeding where the professional anti-gun agitators fail.
It is a bit ironic that the grassroots of people on my team are more effective at getting guns banned than Moms Demand Attention.

“Because MDA and Bloomberg are pathetically ineffective at getting guns banned.”
– We haven’t been able to get many forms of carry legalized in Texas, despite trying for years. (one of only 6 states were open carry of handguns is illegal) OCTC and OCT etc are actually on the cusp getting it legalized. All you naysayers can bite me.

Well, they were.

TL;DR over there, just skip to the epilogue:
“…what should OCTC do instead? Shut up, put the guns away, and disappear forever. That’s the best thing they could possibly do to support gun rights.
Because there’s no tyranny here. And even if there was, I wouldn’t want OCTC douchebags “saving” me from it.”
Yep.

Yuuuup, because criticizing the tactics and methods of advocacy is a big no-no.
Heaven forbid someone goes over a video of citizens lobbying a public servant and go “Yeah, this part is good, this part is meh, and here’s where you shit the bed.”

To be fair OCTC isn’t OCT. OCT has demonstrated that perhaps they are mellowing and learning. OCTC, OTOH, isn’t.

More a matter of criticizing the negative *results* of “advocacy”.

The moron advancing through the lobby of your statehouse with a carbine at low ready is pretty much the face of OCT to the low information types. Is that who you guys want to be?
The last time I carried a rifle in that manner was on patrol, in a USMC rifle squad.. It’s not an ideal political tactic.

– And Heath here shows his ignorance. This thing you describe never happened, what happened was people caring guns outside (not in the capitol) in a legal manner, got their bones broken by DPS.

This post is worth a read. Maybe read it twice.

I was but a wee lad when hippies marched against the Vietnam War and were condemned publicly for supporting the enemies of their country. John Kerry is today SecState.
I was a bit older as bra-burning feminists fought for the failed Equal Rights Amendment and won political power, anti-harassment laws, Title IX and made Hillary Clinton possible.
I was away at college when Reagan was advised that staging intermediate range nuclear missiles in Europe and funding “Star Wars” was a sure path to apocalyptic war with the Soviets. Where are the Soviets today?
I recall supporters of Gay Rights disrupting Mass in St. Patricks Cathedral in NY City, shouting “We’re here. We’re queer.” And despite the condemnation they got, now we have gay marriage in many states.
Condemn OTC all you want. They are following a long and successful tradition of using ugly tactics that get publicly condemned, in an attempt to achieve strategic victories.
And through all the efforts of less offensive pro-rights advocates like all commenters here, they will eventually win. And then they will claim it was their ugly actions that led to victory for all.

This is a bit like blaming black men for lynchings, because they keep looking at white girls. “You guys looking at white girls in public are responsible for more lynchings than the grand dragon of the KKK.”
And if Jews would have just stopped being so Jewish, there’d have been no holocaust.
In each example, the actual perpetrators are being ignored while the victims are being blamed.
No, Young Grasshopper; anti-constitutional politicians ban guns, not those who confront them about it.
And yes; the reporting you’re relying on for your information is almost always left somewhat wanting. If you weren’t there, don’t assume.
And yes; there will be infiltrators, shills and agitators in every group. It happened in the 1960s and it’s happening now.
If politicians don’t want activists with guns outside public buildings, they should stop violating the constitution. See how that works? Then there’s no reason to protest.

And it wasnt OCT that got them banned, it was the political pressure from bloomberg’s paid brigade of “grassroots” protesters pointing out things that OCT did in the past that got winy progressive companies to cave.
