9MM AR stuff
Yesterday, the grandma was desperate for some Junior time and called me up to ask if she could have her for the afternoon. I said sure and used the time to go to the range. I went to Coal Creek Armory and shot the breeze with Tam and Alston (who has apparently forgotten that he has a blog) and shot the Glock 30 and the Walther.
I’m happy to report that Coal Creek is now a one stop shop for your 9mm AR needs. They have buffers, mag blocks, and magazines. And they assured me uppers were on the way. Tam said she had to twist some arms and pointed out the 9mm AR market is something they need to be in since it’s a rifle that people can shoot at the CCA range. I concur. I’ll get an upper there eventually as ADCO is now out of RRA 9mm uppers (that will teach me to let you guys know where I find my gun deals – note to self: self, post deals after you buy them.). I snatched up a 9mm buffer. So, if you’re in the market and local, head on over for the 9mm hookup.

Got some good news adn bad news, via THR:
Good news: Kevin Correia, one of the proprietors of FBMG Inc, says they will be running a group buy on RRA stuff after the SHOT Show.
Bad news: They have to wait until after the SHOT Show because that’s when RRA will be publishing their updated (mostly higher) prices.

There I go, getting him confused with the dang pitcher for the Giants again. When does spring training start, anyway?

Pitchers and catchers report in just less than two weeks. Yay! 🙂

What’s a buffer?
Thanks.

Well, if you’re shining floors, it’s big electric powered thing with a rotating brush/scrubber/polisher. Looks vaguely like a small rototiller and is tricky to learn to use.
In the AR context, it’s basically a weighted plug that sits between the bolt carrier and the recoil spring. Different masses and lengths provide the required regulation of the bolt cycle for different length tubes (standard or collapsable stock) and ammunition types.

Chris, the buffer is the weight that goes in the stock (aka the golden dildo). seen here at the bottom.

Uncle, how hard is it to convert my ar to 9mm? And can you go back and forth easily?. I would love to be able to shoot 9mm at the indoor and then switch to .223 outdoor.
I found one on gunbroker for 419.00 this seems about the going price.

You can go back and forth but not easily. For a 9mm conversion, you need:
upper
9mm hammer
9mm buffer (if you have a CAR stock – A2 stock, use regular buffer).
Magazine block
Magazines
I thought about switching out but thought it’d be better to just have a dedicated 9mm since all you need to add to the 9mm parts is a lower and a stock to make a complete rifle.

The ARFcom FAQ says that the DPMS hammer will work for both 9mm and with standard caliber systems. I’m going to try it.
If it’s true, the only part that needs to be changed is the buffer, which is pretty simple to swap out.

HL, from what I’ve read, it will work but you’ll get some severe trigger slap.
