Well, they were used to assault someone
HL has pictures of the supposed assault weapons that some psychopath used to kill 7 people. I concur with his assessment that two of them look like a shotgun and a hunting rifle. He says the third looks like an air rifle. I think it looks like a Saiga, which is a post-ban, sporterized version of a Kalashnikov.
Update: In comments, Dr. Strangegun says air rifle gets his vote too. And he says it is not a Saiga:
I don’t think it’s a saiga, the front sight isn’t tall enough and the barrel is too long.
So, what is it?

I don’t think it’s a saiga, the front sight isn’t tall enough and the barrel is too long. I’m on the side of “air rifle”. The rear sight doesn’t look right either.
Could it be that we’re looking at a polymer stocked hunting rifle held upside down?

Ah, here’s proof: http://club.guns.ru/images/saiga_renaissance/2.jpg
Look closely; even barring the sights, the gun in the image has a gas block that’s too short, and much too long of a hand guard to be a Saiga.
What is it then? It almost has the profile of a lengthened AUG but there’s no post for a sight. It *looks* like a gas block there in front of the forend but it’s short, maybe it’s a hinge for an air rifle (hence the comments about that)… I don’t know. But it’s not a Kalishinikov, every one of those I see has a short handguard.

what a stupid comment. “they were used to assault someone”…the person who said this doesn’t get it. A PERSON USED a tool to assault someone..this doesnt mean that the weapons are bad. I spent 10 years in the u.s. infantry and I can tell you that I can effect the same thing with a rock, a knife or a slingshot..I can assault someone. If I have the will to do harm to another person then thats just what I’m going to do. A well prepared person neednt fear any of these things..a PERSON is the weapon…what you USE to achieve your ends is the TOOL.
I encourage gun ownership as well as gun EDUCATION. they go hand in hand.
