Possessed
Politically Incorrect Dog is possessed. What’s more, we’re fairly convinced that he is possessed by the spirit of Politically Correct Dog, who passed away last year after battling cancer. Politically Incorrect Dog has taken on some traits he never had before but which Politically Correct Dog always had. Politically Incorrect Dog never much cared for treats nor was he ever inclined to beg for food. But Politically Correct Dog was all about some dog biscuits and begging for scraps. In the evening, Politically Correct Dog would hover around the cabinets where we kept the treats and whine until we gave him some. It was the evening routine. Politically Incorrect Dog would take the treats if you gave them to him but he never was much for begging for them. Recently, Politically Incorrect Dog as started to beg for his evening treats.
Also, Politically Correct Dog had the most bizarre habit of burying his head in the carpet while sticking his rear in the air when you’d scratch his head. Suddenly, Politically Incorrect Dog has started doing the same thing.
Politically Incorrect Dog has also started begging for food during dinner, which he never really did before but Politically Correct Dog did all the time.
Odd, indeed.

These are learned traits.
PID wants attention and knows from experience that PCD got attention when he did these things. So he has adopted them, hoping to get attention too.

Or PID misses PCD and it’s just now bubbling to the surface, manifesting in this behavior.

Just like in “where the red fern grows”. How about that?

We had some neighbors with 2 German Shepards, one was very dominant over the other. The dominant dog got hurt very badly. During his recuperation, the submissive dog took over and became the dominant dog (taking care of the hurt dog as well). As soon as the dominant dog was completely well he took over his dominant role and the submissive dog returned to her role. Dogs are such interesting, great creatures.

Perhaps the dog just wants you to look at his ass? Wouldn’t be the first dog or cat that correlates petting with the ‘up’ button.

It’s about a boy who has two dogs, basically just like PID and PCD, except they’re hound dogs. When PCD dies, PID starts to do the goofy wuss dog things that PCD was so fond of, kindof in memory of PCD. I might have it backwards. Anyway, similar thing.
I think the dogs were named Sam and Sasha, which is funny, because I had a PIC and PCC (cat, not dog), who were named Samantha and Sasha, purely by coincidence, and when PCC kicked the bucket, PIC didn’t give a shit.
Heh, I jest. PIC did sorta care, and maybe she acted more like a wuss, but I’ll never know for sure. Cats are different. I think she spent her entire life sizing me up and wondering what I’d taste like if I was only 3 inches tall.

ben: Your last sentence convinces me you really do understand cats!
