No mention of belonging to an anti-gun group, though
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam (who is a member of the anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns that is funded by the Joyce Foundation – summary here and all posts here) has announced his plans for a second term:
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam today announced his candidacy for a second term.
Haslam who was elected in 2003 cited among his accomplishments a revitalized downtown and the recent focus on redeveloping the South Waterfront.
He also emphasized the cooperative spirit he advocates in government.
To date, the press still hasn’t covered the issue. I wonder what a full page ad in the News Sentinel runs for?

We will see if ignoring a big mistake will work. The question is, will there be an opponent?
It will be a sad day if no one runs against Mayor Haslam.

Interesting,
perhaps this is why the same guy with the same IP address has been visiting his wiki page daily

Having a discussion over at KnoxViews about Bill Haslam not accepting his Mayoral salary. I don’t like it. I think it is a form of soft money.
Much discussion about the issue.
Is it right for a millionaire to refuse his salary for office? Does it create an unequal unlevel playing field? How can any opponent that is not also a millionaire compete?
Governor Bredesen and Mayor Bloomberg also refuse their salaries. I guess that is two things Mayor Haslam has in common with Mayor Bloomberg.

If Haslam comes out and says he didn’t mean it and he now knows better re: the Bloomberg coalition, will you be calling for forgiveness and giving him full support?

Yup. Well, forgiveness, anyway.
