Hunting under the influence

A move to ban it in Tennessee. I thought it was illegal. It’s also odd, to me, that you can be drunk and carry a weapon if you have a handgun permit. But you can’t carry where alcohol is served. Seems we should be more worried about those who are drunk and not those who are near drinks.

Being a Tennessee Handgun Permit Holder, I understand that the handgun permit law prohibits partaking of alcohol while carrying and that it can be revoked for that and certainly while being legally drunk while carrying a firearm.

I don’t think it does. I think the best they can do is to charge you with public drunkenness or reckless endangerment. then, of course, your permit can be revoked.

I find it odd that there’s no law (that I know of) that prohibits drinking and packing that is similar to drunk driving laws.

    I could be wrong, though.

I was very surprised to learn several yeas ago when I first got my Oregon CCW permit that this liberal state has no restrictions when it comes to carrying in bars or other places that serve alcohol. Oregon? Who would have guessed?

  4. T Says:

Texas won’t let you carry in bars that derive more than 51% of revenue from alcohol sales. You are also not allowed to carry while intoxicated. From what I hear, intoxicated for CCW means “any BAC greater than 0”, although I can find nothing in the law that addresses the issue specifically.

  5. Justin Buist Says:

Michigan sounds a lot like Texas. Possession of a handgun with a BAC over 0.02 is illegal, but there’s no limit at all on long arms.

Funny, I drink a beer or two at night. Usually have a firearm or 12 within easy reach most of the time, sometimes one strapped on. Never get drunk when handling firearms and wouldn’t drink out while carrying but never have any problems. Bars that ban CCW in Tennessee are just shoot me zones waiting to happen. The bad guys don’t obey any of the rules anyway. How may bars and liquer stores in Tennessee have been robbed? how many people have been shot in them? quite a few by my count. Sounds like those rules are aimed at the wrong people.

I drink. I drink a lot. I have been doing so for almost 50 years. I don’t drink in situations I know require total sobriety to safely complete, I base that judgment on the physical requirements. Thank God, those situations are very few. If your mind changes when you drink, don’t.

I will say this again, if one cannot drink without changing or maintaining proper comportment one simply cannot and should not drink. Not even a drop. Period.

  9. Robert Says:

I hardly drink at all and never while shooting….but must there be a law about EVERYTHING?

  10. Robb Allen Says:

I normally don’t shower and dry my hair at the same time. Apparently, I need to be told that too.

Here in Florida, I can sit at a booth where I can lean over to the bar, I just can’t sit at the bar. I can order a drink, I just can’t sit at the bar.

I think some of these concessions are just to placate the idiots in the world into thinking they got their way.
