Curious about the amnesty immigration bill?

It has more working parts than the Space Shuttle. Truth Laid Bare writes “Immigration Bill: Bigger Than The Bible, Not Nearly As Enlightened”. It is 326 pages of Rube Goldberg inspired confusion.

If you dare, more can be learned here and here. Good luck.

    I’m also worried about whatever gets hidden inside the troop funding bill, that is , when they get done with the poly-tick-in’ and slap something together last minute.

    Yea I know congress has the power of the purse, but they don’t have the votes to override, so stop with the grandstanding already.

  2. Ron W Says:

    This amnesty bill is to legalize the invasion which our government has deliberately allowed and to further appease and accommodate the invaders….all at the expense of citizens and legal immigrants.

    A 326 page statute should spawn a couple of thousand pages of proposed Regs.

    After following the notice and hearing procedure for Proposed Regs and making the attendant changes, Homeland Security will promulgate Final Regs, which will account for a couple of thousand (at least) additional pages.

    Then, we will have government lawyers conducting ICE training seminars and conferences for Border Patrol to ensure that they understand all of the sublte nuances of the new statutes and Regs.

    Of course, they will understand however many thousand pages of statutes and Regs apply to their various duties in the field.

    Then, of course there will be appeal procedures for illegal aliens claiming that another Abu Grab is happening on our soil, which will necessitate the maintenance of Administrative Law Judges and US Attorneys representing ICE and Border Patrol agents.

    Is the purpose of this nonsense to give government and private sector lawyers more work or to secure our borders?

    This, my friends, is how new laws work. This is how bureaucracies come into existence. This is your tax dollars at work.

    My solution:

    1. Reject the bill in its entirety (if Ted Kennedy, Lindsey Graham and, I reluctantly admit, GWB are for it, it can’t be in our national best interests);

    2. Enforce the existing laws (including deportation); and

    3. Prosecute existing illegals who don’t pay taxes (for tax evasion, just like the IRS would with respect to us);

    4. Build a real (not chain link) fence and augment our Border Patrol by some exponential number of its current staff.

    My Regs:

    1. Check immigration paperwork on workers;

    2. If they have no green card, visa, passport, etc., cuff them, Mirandize them and book them for deportation processing;

    3. If they run, two shots to the center of mass and one to the head.

    The law should require law enforcement personnel to enforce our laws, not employers.

    You know, I’d love to be able to sit and read through this thing and fully understand it, but 326 pages! That thing’ll put me to sleep in an instant, I dont stand a chance.

    You may as well start learning Spanish. Given how much faster people of Latin descent are reproducing than we Anglo types are, it’s simply a matter of time, well within the lifetimes of anyone not currently in retirement, that market forces will simply require it.

    This finger in the dyke isn’t going to slow that much.

  7. Blounttruth Says:

    Once this bill fades away and a real bill takes shape the issue of reproduction shouldn’t matter. We should deport all illegals without green cards and send them home even with an American born child. If the parents are illegal it means that they had their child in the US illegally and they should be overlooked, sent home, and made to apply like everyone else!
    The entire issue makes me sick looking at my paycheck, at the dollars and cents that are taken out to provide for people that broke the law and me as a citizen can’t catch a break for doing 10 MPH over the speed limit?
    Fortunately the federal .gov is going to pass a bill with the best interest of the American people in mind (LEGAL CITIZENS) as opposed to say for their own career benefit (/sarcasm off).

  8. Manish Says:

    Well, first the good news…damn foreigner no more as my green card was recently approved.

    So let me ask a simple question to those people saying enforce the existing rules…do you know what the rules are? Do you know what you are advocating for enforcing?

    Recently Colorado enacted some laws that made life harder for illegal immigrants. The result is that farmers are having difficulty finding workers to harvest their fields and many are seeing their crops go bad in the fields because no one is picking them. The laws scared both legal and illegal immigrants from Colorado.

    Having said all this, there are a number of provisions in the current bill that vastly improves the immigration system and it shouldn’t die because people don’t want the bill to be seen as giving “amnesty” to illegals. For instance, the move from a family-based system to a merit-based system is a much needed change.

    There are only so many people who get admitted to the US ever year, should it be based on the fact that your brother is already here or should be based on the fact that you have an employable skill? The current bill gets rid of the ability to bring in your siblings or adult children and admits people based on merit. Having said that, the devil is in the details on this provision.

    It also gives an employment-based means of obtaining a green card without employer sponsorship. Right now, there are many people who are on H1-Bs who are indentured servants to their employers. Some of those employers treat those employees well, but not all. A friend waited 5 years for her green card and was being paid less than entry-level. Once she got her green card, she got a raise back up to market. This will end the cheap source of labor that some employers use employment visas for.

    Damn American? Congratulations Manish.

  11. chris Says:

    Congrats, Manish.

    I am happy for you.

  12. Manish Says:

    Thanks guys!

  13. Sebastian-PGP Says:

    I’m all for enforcing the laws we already have and maybe coming up with new ones that actually punish companies that hire illegals.

    Just remind everyone that you’ll be paying 40% more to drywall your house and $8 for a head of lettuce.

  14. #9 Says:

    Just remind everyone that you’ll be paying 40% more to drywall your house and $8 for a head of lettuce.

    And that is what no one wants to talk about. It really is that simple. Difficult choices ahead.

  15. Jim W Says:

    I dont eat that much lettuce and I can mow my own damn lawn and do my own drywall.

  16. rich Says:

    I’ll willingly pay $4 for a head of lettuce since I’ll save $50 on taxes to pay for an illegal immigrant’s visit to the emergency room. Or do you think that hospitals don’t pass those costs on?

  17. Blounttruth Says:

    Manish,
    Wanted to tell you gratz! And welcome to the US as a legal immigrant, and thanks for doing things the “legal” way. I do not want anyone to get the impression that my earlier comments were in any way racists as I truly believe we are a country of immigrants, the issue is the word “Illegal” that gets us where it hurts.

    When you said that illegals lives are made more difficult in Colorado you loose me totally. The issue on everyone’s minds is the “Illegal” aspect of it. If our .gov would allow prisoners of non violent crimes to get into the fields we could pay them .30 cents a hour, and most prisoners in the US are foreign illegals from many countries, so in that respect the immigrants would be back to work in the fields and our lettuce would be .40 cents a head.

    You again loose me when you talk about families being hurt by this, as I have had 2 family members who were born citizens in the US that have died due to not being able to receive proper medical attention due to clauses in their medical insurance that did not cover certain treatments, and all the while they worked and paid taxes so illegals could receive any type of treatment on their dime. So when you say this issue effects family I can assure you I feel the pain. I wish my family members were alive and only a flight away so I could visit them, but the issue has all but collapsed many health care providers as well as school systems across the country, not to mention an estimated 40,000 gang members now in L.A. alone most of which are from El Salvador, but illegal just the same.

    Again I wish you and yours the best here in the US, but remember that all that are against immigration are not bigots, but rather patriots that want to see our elected officials hold everyone to the same standard across the board and not allow certain laws to be broken to benefit their careers while making it more difficult for the citizens of this country.

    A guest worker program that could be applied for from an illegals home country would be wonderful, and perhaps if the individual worked for years they would not have to leave given that in that time they learned to speak English and paid their taxes. Immigrants should also have the same rights as an employee as any other citizen (which is basically none) to protect them from the types of negative situations you mentioned. Just my opinions.

  18. Manish Says:

    Hey BT,

    First, thanks for you good wishes. Second, it should be noted that I’m an experienced skilled professional (computer person) who was born in Canada and its a whole lot easier for me than it is for an unskilled person from Mexico. All I had to do was find a willing employer to sponsor me and they got a lawyer to take care of the rest. To get a work visa, my employer didn’t have to even pretend to look for an American to do my job, though for the green card they did have to prove that they couldn’t find an American.

    Contrast this with an unskilled Mexican. Their employer has to show the government that they couldn’t find an American to do the job just to get a temporary work visa (and their visa lasts 1-3 years, mine would have lasted 6)..which is why many employers don’t bother. If your employer doesn’t sponsor you, you have no means of being legal by and of yourself.

    This is a huge change in the new system, whereby someone can become legal without requiring an employer to go out of their way and spend thousands of dollars (i.e. the merit based system).

    When you said that illegals lives are made more difficult in Colorado you loose me totally.

    Look at it from the perspective of the farmer who can’t find workers. There are 12 million illegals and 2 million prisoners in the US.

    You again loose me when you talk about families being hurt by this

    I’m sorry to hear about your family members, but I think you misread what I said. The current system favors an unemployable person because their brother is a citizen over an employable person who can’t find a company to go through the hassle of sponsorship. I think you would agree that we should admit people based on merit rather than family connections, right? This bill will give preference to immigrants that have the skills we want rather than immigrants who have parents/children or siblings who are citizens.

    Hey Rich,

    I’ll willingly pay $4 for a head of lettuce since I’ll save $50 on taxes to pay for an illegal immigrant’s visit to the emergency room.

    Does this mean that you are willing to pay more at Walmart so that they will provide health care coverage to their employees?

  19. rich Says:

    Yep, but only if Walmart chooses to offer such coverage voluntarily, and isn’t forced to do so by the gov’t, and as long as they are still cheaper than the other guy.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
