Obama on guns
Barack Oswald Obama’s campaign on why the Senator did not sign onto the Congressional brief with 55 other colleagues asking the Supreme Court to find the DC gun ban violates the second amendment:
Barack Obama believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right, and he greatly respects the constitutional right of Americans to bear arms. He also believes that the Constitution permits state and local governments to adopt reasonable and common-sense gun-safety measures.
So, he thinks that a complete ban on handguns, a ban on any use of a firearm for self-defense, and the requirement that long-guns be rendered inoperable are all reasonable and common-sense gun-safety measures.

Oh, then is that how he will instruct his Secret Service agents to keep their weapons??? NOT!
Change? NOT! Same old arrogant elitist wanting to impose tyranny on us while he gets what we don’t get and we pay for it!!

There’s that “creates a right” again.
Someone needs to hit him on the nose with a rolled-up copy of the constitution.
I’m guessing he thinks that the 14th Amendment “created” the right for him to receive equal protection under the law.

Ron W., your point is taken, but then again, if the arrogant elitist actually got to impose his tyranny on the rest of us, that would be change. Maybe not the kind of change anyone with half a brain would want, but change nonetheless.
Gregory, hate to burst your bubble but if it wasn’t for the 14th Amendment, Barack Obama would not have a right to equal protection under the law. Just ask any former slave, or even a free black from the antebellum era.

“Barack Oswald Obama”, now that’s funny!
March 26th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Keep going, I have all kinds of middle names for he who shall not be middle-named.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
The 2nd “creates” a right, which it doesn’t, he respects it, which he doesn’t, so he’s willing to let any local government violate it completely.
Got it. The phrase, “talking from both sides of his mouth” comes to mind. In other words, he’s a leftist politician, which we knew already.
It is fun to ridicule them though, and they make it so easy. And don’t you just love that “Reasonable Restrictions” they toss about like an all-purpose hand grenade to kill further discussion?

Xrlq,
As I wrote,”Same old arrogant elitist WANTING to impose tyranny on us while he gets what we don’t get and we pay for it!!”
We’ve got many federal and local gun laws which have imposed a degree of tyranny, (or total tyranny in places like Washington D.C. and Chicago) and guys like Obama WANT to impose more…while keeping the best hired guns for themselves.
They always say something like “I’m not against taking hunting and target-shooting guns”, but then why does their armed security have guns??? Well, the same reason I have my guns…for my pre-existing RIGHT of armed self-defense.

He is literally incapable of making a definitive, declarative statement on any topic, and the media is complicit in his deception.
I want a President who will make a definitive, declarative statement (“Evil empire,” anyone?), and I want a media who will threaten a media blackout unless the candidate answers a question. Pissed off that McCain thinks Vietnam veteran status earns a no-questions-asked ticket to the White House? The media hasn’t investigated anything since Watergate, for Christ’s sake.
The only difference between the LA Times and Pravda is that the latter was forced to capitulate, whereas the former capitulates due to ideology. Someone wise said that when his boot is on your face, it matters not whether it’s the left or the right boot.

Hey, Unc! I love the new middle name game. Oswald is brilliant.
How about “Barack Butros Butros Obama” for the international crowd? For the feminists, “Barack Elizabeth Obama?”
March 26th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
xrlq, yes before the 14th amendment he had right to equal protection under the law. That he did not get it, is to our shame. It is a shame that we had to be forced to obey our own founding principles and that we had to use force to end slavery, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have the pre-existing right. It means we were criminally and morally repugnant in denying those rigthts. Let’s tell it like it is.

I’m afraid to say, guys, that Heller will leave Illinois’s gun laws intact.
You cannot carry a firearm, concealed or unconcealed, “in the market place”. You can carry a firearm anyway you please, in your own abode or fixed place of business or on your own land. You can carry an unconcealed firearm in any unicorporated area (hunting for all practical purposes) or any shooting range. Some municipalities, including Chicago, prohibit handguns but there is a state law which preempts prosecution for their possession if the police find out about them because they were used in defense of the home.
Obama’s position in my view is Illinois’s and I expect that it will largely be the Supreme Court’s in Heller.

nk, i’m thinking the chicago ban is done for though.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Obama’s position isn’t Illinois’s. He voted against the preemption law of which you speak.
March 27th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Thank you, Xrlq, I didn’t know that.
Uncle, I’m not so sure. Dellinger gave a very emotional (PSH) argument about guns that can be concealed and carried into subways and airports and courthouses and such other places. And I do not place all that much faith in Prince Scalia. He talked about .270s and .308s and twelve-gauges. Fine, he knows his hunting guns. I’m not sure he’s going to do better than AHSA would. Ok, I won’t engage in PSH about the decision before it comes out either.
