Fudd For NRA Board?

A guy running for NRA Board says gun owners should not store ammo; supports microstamping and gun owner databases; and if you have a gun for disaster preparedness, you’re out of the mainstream. Meet Pat Wray.

Update: and in the past, he called owners of evil black rifles Vicious, vengeful, vitriolic jackals.

  1. Jacob Says:

He won’t get the nominating committee endorsement, but he should easily get the 250 signatures to put his name on the ballot. I can see him getting a fair number of votes too, but not enough to get elected.

  2. Bitter Says:

Perhaps you’ll note the part of the post where I say he’s not going to get the endorsement, but that it would be nice to make sure he gets hell when he tries to get signatures. Perhaps if you help us get word out to NRA members, he’ll have a much harder time getting on the ballot. Even if he still manages it, that many more voting members will know not to vote for him. Don’t accept “not enough to get elected.” I’m out for “get his ass beat and come in dead last.”

  3. DirtCrashr Says:

He’s clearly an embittered Corvalis Oregon-Crganic, obviously Democrat (possibly a former Californian who moved up there in the late 70’s) who’s as confused about guns and hunting as he is about who wants to restrict his elite hunting privileges.

  4. Jacob Says:

I can assure you he won’t have any trouble getting signatures and he will get a lot of votes in the general election. He very accurately represents the sentiment of a lot of hunters who are pro-gun only in so far as needing a gun during hunting season.

    “Vicious, vengeful, vitriolic jackals.”

    ::blink::

Oh, come on! He couldn’t have used the word “vipers” to complete the alliterative sequence? If he was so set on the word “jackals,” he could’ve used it as a springboard for “jealous, jumpy, juvenile jackals.”

A loathing for the 2nd Amendment would’ve been enough, but his command of the English language causes me to rise up and defeat him.

  6. Jacob Says:

Do not blow this guy off. I can think of a dozen NRA Lifers with a measure of political clout who would carry his petitions precisely because of what he said.

  7. OldTexan Says:

I have always been a gun guy of sorts but mainly a hunter and sort of apolitical about gun stuff. Years ago when I was shooting skeet I told an old guy I was shooting with that I did not know about the NRA Magazine, American Rifleman. He spent the next 30 minutes explaining to me how important it was for hunters to get on board with the 2nd Amendment rights movement and if I wanted for my grand children to enjoy hunting and shooting I needed to wake up.

Which I did and I have been an NRA member ever since and a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, especially for hand guns and black guns.

  8. Fred Says:

Another ploy to separate and divide the shooting fraternity that should fail but may not due to the bitterness displayed by some groups against other groups. Perhaps a real effort should be made to stop using derogatory terms for different groups.
I shoot-I hunt-I collect- hell I just like things that go bang. I suspect most of you do the same. The NRA supports the 2nd amendment and all of the shooting sports. The NRA does not need a Judas on the board

  9. Kristopher Says:

This green a-hole has caused trouble before.

He is a classic fuddite and a liberal hippie to boot … packing elk quarters out via llama? Dear ghod, what a loon.

He is quite happy to post or write the usual “I am a hunter and gun owner, but …” screeds.

  10. Lyle Says:

Anyone who’s against storing ammo, who supports microstamping and gun owner databases, and thinks that if you have a gun for disaster preparedness you’re out of the mainstream, is a vicious, vengeful, vitriolic jackal…or viper.

Actually, what we need most on the NRA board is a vicious, vengeful, vitriolic jackal…or viper, who unabashedly supports the 2A. We need a fighter, not a Fudd– an attacker, not an appeaser– an aggressor, not an apologist– a hero, not a hippie. We need a Churchill, not a Chamberlain.

  11. ATLien Says:

I think he’s a mole sent to destroy the NRA. As with all liberals, he should put in a bag and dropped into the ocean.

  12. Bitter Says:

As I noted at Thirdpower’s site, I’ve decided that calling him a Fudd is unwarranted. He also asks hunters to join Sierra Club and just look the other way when they try to ban hunting. He’s even throwing so-called “Fudds” under the bus.

  13. straightarrow Says:

I was flabbergasted when I read his name. From the description of his positions and his seeming willingness to cut the throats of gun owners, I thought right up until the last minute that you were describing Wayne LaPierre.

  14. SayUncle Says:

sa, do you ever have anything to add that’s worth reading?

  15. chrisb Says:

It is sad really. I also think this guy is more than just your typical Fudd. He is an evil gungrabber in hunter’s clothing. We can see him for what he is. An enemy to our freedom.

A lot of the typical Fudds out there actually come around to see the light when you explain it to them. Some don’t and never will, but the more we can educate the better off we are. I think Zumbo is a perfect example of this.

  16. straightarrow Says:

I guess it depends on the state of your mind. That was a true statement. I really did think that. But I have been around longer than you have, so just maybe I remember things you’d rather not know.

  17. straightarrow Says:

Thinking about your snide question has started me wondering.

Are you now going to accuse me of threatening you, also? That does seem to be SOP in certain quarters.

Funny that you feel such animosity for me, when I have none for you. I don’t believe I have ever insulted you. Though I have disagreed with you on occassion and only consistently on only specific subjects. Unless, of course, disagreement is considered an insult.

    Let me know.

  18. SayUncle Says:

You’ve never threatened me. However, you come here and talk down to me and my readers regularly. You can disagree with me and be civil. However, you tend to hurl insults that are unwarranted. You’re welcome to stay and to comment. Just don’t be a dickhead.

  19. straightarrow Says:

I try very hard to stay within the truth. Sometimes the truth is, in itself, an insult. I don’t have the power to change that. Sorry, but I’m just not that important in the mechanics of the universe.

As for talking down to you, specifically, I never have. Unless, again, disagreement or a tangential view is considered such. As for talking down to some others, GUILTY! Usually right after they have informed me of my mental and moral shortcomings without addressing the issue under discussion or the points I may have addressed in something I said. With one exception, a man who lied about me and then talked disparagingly about me behind my back, so to speak. So, yeah, every now and then, usually when I accidentally link to his site and immediately leave it, I get angry all over again and say something about it. Childish? Probably, but it isn’t like he hasn’t earned it.

Now as for staying within the truth, I must amend something I said. I truly thought the description of the candidate’s positions was a reflection of LaPierre’s modus operandi. Had I been more perspicacious I would have realized that you couldn’t possibly have been talking about him, because as Executive Vice-President his position was assured and therefore he would not be a candidate.

As for my total disregard and disrespect for him, that still stands.

You may not have noticed that I usually play the rules set by others. Discussion of the topic, whether calm or heated, I stay on the topic. When someone wanders into the personal attack, I often go there with them. I have been to two gunfights with nothing but my bare hands. Didn’t work out real well for me. I now try to play the same rules the other side plays. If that makes me a dickhead, most of us are.

  20. straightarrow Says:

A point of clarity, real well would have been if I hadn’t been shot at all. Well is what I got. I won and survived. So no real complaints, but I could have done without the perforations.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
