Traveler’s Insurance Anti-Gun?
If this is legitimate, it looks like Traveler’s Insurance canceled a policy because the policy holder owned an assault rifle.

I once had car insurance through Traveler’s. Based on my experience then (and I didn’t own any semiauto rifles with cosmetic features of possible military utility), I’m not surprised. The company seem to want to cater to the gated-community set, and will do what they can to discourage everyone else.

So, does State Farm do this kind of stuff?
Strike that…I’ll go find my lawyer friend who is also an NFA-firearms owner, and ask him who provides his insurance.

i’ve got my insurance through State Farm, so i really hope they don’t do this shit. i’d still be interested in knowing what companies are willing to insure NFA owners, just in case i might be able to afford their policies.

IIRC, you can get insurance on your weapons from NRA.

I have my homeowners insurance through AllState. When I called my agent to tell him I had purchased a gun (and safe) for home defense, and that I might need to increase my coverage in case of a lawsuit, he said congratulations and asked me what kind of coverage I wanted.

Most homeowners policies have a limit they will pay on loss/theft of firearms. They also usually don’t cover intentional acts (like shooting a burglar in your house).

I don’t know State Farm’s stance on guns, but they once cancelled me due to bad information that I did not live at my address. However, they sent the notice and unused premium to that address. When I called them, they admitted the error was theirs, but refused to re-issue the policy because I had been cancelled by an insurance carrier. The fact that it was them and they were mistaken didn’t matter. They did however offer me much more expensive coverage through one of their subsidiaries. How sweeet.
Needless to say, I have never done business with them since, nor will I. It took quite a few years to qualify for normal insurance rates with all other companies because of the cancellation. Not trying to convince others what to do as regards them, just sharing information that may or may not be helpful in your decision.

Minor quibble: per the letter they didn’t cancel, they nonrenewed. An a-hole move either way, but the legal distinction between canceling a contract and choosing not to renew it upon expiration is significant. Then again, I’m also a bit curious as to how they even knew about the “assault” weapons in question. They never asked me if I owned any guns.
