A few redesign notes
At least five of you have emailed to say you miss the monkey.
Working on changing the hyperlink color since it strains peoples’ eyeballs.
And the mouseover hyperlink effect is on its way out too.
The new design loads nice on the crackberry in that the content loads first as opposed to sidebars.
Anything else?
Update: Better?

Much easier on the eyes, this template is. It gets a thumbs up from me.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Very fresh look, I should talk to Robb – but then I’d want a new title, handle and all that social crap too.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I work for firearms, ammunition, and Trijicon ACOGs.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
The layout is all to the right until I mouseover a link and it jumps back to normal. This is the main home page. The subpages all load normally.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I think the links should be a different color, at least slightly, than just the regular bolded text
September 15th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Spoke too soon, the image with an alt of “we say more dumb shit before noon than most people say all day is not displaying.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Also, why can’t I copy and paste text anymore?
September 15th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Dunno that one. I can copy text, as illustrated above.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
This is way better.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I only read via RSS reader, so it doesn’t matter to me.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I usually read via my Windows Mobile 6 phone, and the new layout is “messy” in a mobile browser.
It’s not unreadable, like some sites, but I prefer the old layout.
But I’m the guy who liked WindowsME better than XP when it came out.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I like the layout – but still think you ought to replace the mast head with the monkey. its cool he’s on the side, but the old one just struck me as humorous and lighthearted and all that.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
On my Windows mobile phone I get no content. If I scroll way down I can get the blogroll and categories but that’s it. Mine has Windows Mobile 6 Professional with whatever version of IE comes with that.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Looks great. 🙂
My only complaint is that the header makes the rest of the page jumps down when you mouseover it. Should probably toss the graphic in the background; then make the home link straight text, and use a span to hide it. Or something.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Yeah, put the minkee back in.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
the jumpy header is fixed now.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
I’ll try to download a mobile emulator later and see what I can do to fix display issues there. CSS is supposed to downgrade nicely. In fact, all the content is now on top so technically, if CSS breaks, the first thing you see should be the post(s).

KCSteve: Menu->View->”One Column”
See if that helps.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Count me in on the “bring the old masthead graphic back” list.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Old version of IE. I updated it and as you can see it works now.
September 15th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
It looks good on WinMo 6.1. Here’s a screenie
September 15th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
You can put lipstick on a monkey….
Heh, looks great!
September 15th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
After the fixes it looks a lot better on Webkit (Safari/Google Chrome)
September 15th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
I’d still like a little more contrast in the link color, but it’s better.
September 15th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Sorry, TGirsch, but I can’t disagree with that at all. Bring back the old masthead, or at least the T&P pic.
September 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Works fine in Firefox with no header jumping stuff.
I work for arms, ammo, and ACOGs too – but there was no UI work for me this year…
September 15th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Looks good and works well in Lynx.
😉

Setting to the ‘One Column’ view fixes the problem.
Out of curiosity I tried the ‘desktop’ view as well – that let me see the content but in a very narrow column (about 6 characters or so).
Figured this might give you some clues Robb
Looks great on a ‘real’ screen.

Except that now I added a comment and everything pushed right until I got far enough into this comment.
odd.

Houston, we have a problem…
When the new layout loads I get this:
http://pics.livejournal.com/herrbgone/pic/0005th76
After a moment it turns into this:
http://pics.livejournal.com/herrbgone/pic/0005wabx
until I roll the mouse over it. Then it goes back to the first layout. In either case there is text missing and only about half of the ads show up. Split right down the mid
dle.
As you can see I’m stuck using Internet Exploder so it might look better with other brousers.
September 16th, 2008 at 8:36 am
Herr, it looks like you’re using a very old IE. Is that 5?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Looks like 6 SP2. It’s an old PC.
September 17th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
I like it. Looks good on the iPhone too.
