More hope and change
Confederate Yankee: Despite numerous public claims in the past that he would leave gun owners alone, reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban and enacting other restrictions are very much on Barack Obama’s “Urban Policy” agenda. And offers some fact-checking.
Well, we knew that already. And it was not unexpected. Insty offers an observation:
Since “urban” is often used as a code-word for “black and hispanic,” is lumping gun control under “urban policy,” perhaps, you know, racist? Given the historic use of gun control to disarm minorities, that seems a fair question.
And it often means “poor” too.

“Since “urban” is often used as a code-word for ‘black and hispanic,’…”
Markie Marxist sez: “Don’t worry. In this context it’s a code word for the whole country. We’re looking to be as inclusive as possible when we send private gun owners to prison.”

I’ve been saying that for years…as somebody who lives here in the urban warzone concrete jungle that is Baltimore, I can assure you that what they mean by “urban gun policy” is “if we can just disarm Pookie and DeyDey, maybe they’ll quit being homicidal maniacs”.

Sebastian-PGP:
I’ve heard pro-gun people make that argument, sadly.

Yeah, I have too. One guy I know said that they should ban the AK clones because they’re cheap enough for those blacks to get. Oy.

You know what? That works for me. Not because I believe in it, or that it’s right and proper, but because I would like to seem the new administration explain why “urban” dwellers are less deserving, less responsible, less free than the paler suburban and rural among us. I really would. I mean that’s exactly how this shit started last time, right after the War of Northern Aggression. Full circle. Ain’t that just wonderful?

oops, I forgot, we’re all the new niggers. If you think the word is obscene, and it is, think about how much more obscene it is when used as justification for the abuse and how the expansion of its meaning allow that abuse to expand.

I’m neither latino nor black and live in an urban area. The city I live in (San Francisco) is one of the most expensive to live in in the US. Urban areas are much more than the urban poor.

May be Manish, but that isn’t how the code breaks out into clear speak.
